Obituary Index
Legend for Newspaper Names (These codes are used in the index) |
|||
This index is the result of an on-going volunteer
project which started by converting eleven
drawers of library cards, each containing obituary information, to an
electronic database format and continues on an ongoing basis with current
issues of the “Neodesha Derrick”.
As with all indexes, many human precautions have been taken to assure
accuracy, but the originals should always be checked for verification. Also, even as the data was being entered,
omissions have been found. It never
hurts to ask. |

(The library
staff and Board would like to thank the band of volunteers that spent many
hours converting 11 drawers of library cards into this electronic index.)

Mr. Basore was the last surviving member
of the post.
He died March 8, 1939 at the age of 92.
All pages from the index have been
scanned in full color (PDF format) and when printed at 11” x 17” they are
actual size and very suitable for framing.
Contact Gene
Ewert for a copy and he will send you the pdf file via e-mail and suggest a
$3 to $5 donation be sent to the library at the address above.
You will get the page(s) you request
regardless of whether a donation is made or not. The volunteer has no way of
tracking that.
Please include in your e-mail “Humphrey
Post Page ____” and the name of the veteran.

Many
of these records have good information, some with pictures of the actual stones
and some with biographical information.
There are even some with “family links” between members of families no
matter where they are buried if their record is on Find-A-Grave. You can request of the “owner” of the record
to add information you have about those listed and what links you might have
knowledge of.

Your
library may be able to get these newspapers on microfilm through Interlibrary
loan.
Check
with your local librarian.
Find
the paper you need from the indexes above and then look for that paper on the
KSHS web-site.
Your
librarian will need all the information listed on the row in the table for that
particular microfilm, ESPECIALLY the Reel Number.
Here is a link to a Frisco Web-site maintained by the Springfield-Greene County (Missouri) Library. There is all kinds of useful information available from this page for anyone that had a family member that was associated with the Frisco Railroad. Two options from this link that could be extremely helpful and are easily searchable are the Employee Cards (like Social Security cards) and the Employee Magazines. The cards are searchable by name and the Magazine is searchable by keyword (like “Neodesha” or a name).
Entering a surname on the Card search, searches the cards for Frisco employees, their father and/or mother’s name! Interestingly the cards I have looked at give the employee’s name and parents but not spouses. The cards also show address, occupation, birth date, sex, signature and maybe death and/or retirement dates (look at the top of the card). For most of them you can view the actual card! Give it a shot! Click on the logo below.
