Seward County, Kansas--Trails to the Past Census

Seward Census Records

While the first official settlement in Seward County did not begin until 1884, a Census Enumerator named H.H. Kidder was apparently passing through Seward County on June 26th, 1880, and came across five cattle herders. He does not list a township for them, probably because there wasn't a town nearby yet. All of them were single, and only Henry Quincy and John Harvey had been in the county for more than a month. Here is the very first census taken for Seward County.

The next available census for Seward County is the 1900 Census. Look for this in the coming months.
