Bourbon County is located in southeastern Kansas, its eastern border shares the state line with Missouri. This was one of the original counties, established in 1855, and named for Bourbon County, Kentucky. It is bordered on the north by Linn County; on the east and by Vernon County Missouri; on the south and southwest by Crawford and Neosho counties; on the west and northwest by Allen and Anderson counties. Its county seat and largest city is Fort Scout.
