Atchison

Atchison was founded in 1854 and named for Senator David Rice Atchison, a Missouri senator who had interested some of his friends in the idea of forming a town in the new Kansas Territory. The site selection by Senator Atchison was not popular among his friends, who crossed the Missouri River near Ft. Leavenworth and journeyed upstream to the present location of Atchison. They discovered that two men had already staked their claims near the river. George Million and Samuel Dickson were Atchison's first settlers.

Atchison is the birthplace of famed aviatrix, Amelia Earhart. Atchison is also known as one of the most haunted places in America.
