Garnett

Colony

The town of Colony was established in 1872, on the site of a railroad station/town which had been named "Divide," which was platted in 1870 by the railroad company. This location was the highest point of elevation on the railroad line between Kansas City and the Gulf of Mexico. Divide was settled by an organized group of colonists from Ohio in the spring of 1872, and the name was changed to "Colony" after this settlement of colonists. Greeley

Greeley was the first town established in Anderson County. Settlement in Anderson County began in the spring of 1854 when a group of settlers located near the present town of Greeley. The townsite was selected in the spring of 1856, with the surveying and platting of the townsite occurring in 1857. Read all the details at the link below.

Welda

Welda was officially established in 1880, after having been a railroad station for approximately 10 years prior. Although it had been considered a railroad station for all this time, it did not house a depot. In 1880 the town's citizins circulated a petition to establish a depot, which was accomplished the following year. Read more at the link below.
