Saline County Schools

The following school reports were published in the local newspapers. Although they did not give class rolls, they did state attendance and noted outstanding students.

The following is the report of Salina schools for enrollment and attendance for the month of December, 1878. Enrollment: 509 Attendance: 455. The following students of the High School who have been perfect in attendance, punctuality and deportment and have an average scholarship of over 95: Anna DeWitt, 99.8; Hattie Godfrey, 97; John Bishop, 97; Louis Tressin, 98; Clara Berks, 99.5; Christie Campbell, 97; Lillie Clarkson, 98; William Bishop, 99; Hiram Godfrey, 98. The following is the report of Salina schools of the average enrollment and attendance for the month of April, 1879. Enrollment: 446 Attendance: 395 The following students ol the High School have been perfect in attendance, punctuality and deportment and have an average scholarship of over 95: Clara Berks, 99; Lillie Clarkson, 96; William Bishop, 98; Luna Bierce, 98; Amy Berks, 98; Hilda Johnston, 95; Anna DeWitt, 99.9; Louis Tressin, 96. Report of the enrollment and attendance of the Salina public schools, for the mohth ending Feb. 2, 1883: total enrollment: 745 total attendance: 638 The following pupils have been perfect in attendance, punctuality and deportment, and have an average scholarship of 95 or more: High School: Maggie Anderson, 97; Lulu McCall, 99. Sixth grade: Emma Strong, 95; Francis Ekstrand, 95. Fifth grade: Georgia Wilson, 100; Mabel Foster, 95. Fourth grade: Charlie Berg, 97; Henry Morrison, 96; Willis Rauhaut, 99. List of pupils averaging 90 per cent and above at the close of the school, May 21, 1886: Ida Sundgren, 98 ; Willie Ericson , 95; Ellen Ericson, 95 ; Lena Lindquist, 90; Hulda Anderson, 95; Ebbie Sundgren, 95; Hilda Anderson, 95; Ellen Anderson, 97; Albert Lindquist, 98; David Lindquist, 92. Salina District, No 50., Saline county, Kansas. I For the term (and 3d month) ending Dec. 26, 1886: Enrolment for present month males, 14 ; females, 24 ; total, 49. Lena Miller, Anna Neff, Clara Dopp, Edie Miller, Frankie Miller and Walter Dopp, neve been present every day during the term. Seventeen pupils were present every day during the present month, and six pupils were absent one day each month. Our pupils have been doing good work ; tbeir deportment has been good; their punctuality and regularity in attendance is commendable. Respe'y, J. A. Ward, teacher.

Report from School District No 33, west school house, Saline Co., Kans., for term ending Dec 24, 1886: Enrollment for term, males 9, females 15, total 24; average deportment for term 98. August Martin, George Martin, Harry Flitcraft, Kay Flitcraft, and Adolph Lehart were present every day during the present month; August and George Martin were present every day during the term; Mary and Freddy Lies were absent one day only. Visitors have been few, our worthy Co. Sup't being one of tbe number. J. A. Ward, Teacher.

School report, Dist. No. 18 in Chico closed for two weeks vacation, Friday Dec. 18, 1891. A number of the patrons were present in the afternoon to listen to the Christmas programme given by the pupils. The enrollment is 14. Average daily at tendance 13. Those neither absent nor tardy are Blanche and Gertie Gillum, Zella Miller, Clara, James, aud Frank Kouns, Hallie and Eddie Dickerson, David Jones, and Martin Grider. Number of visitors 13. Number of tardy marks 1. Zella Miller was neither absent nor tardy during the four months. I congratulate myself on being in a district where the parents take so much in terest In keeping their children In school. Maggie Perrill, teacher.

Report of School Dist. No. 43, Saline Co., Kans, for the 4th month, ending Dec. 25, 1891. Enrollment, males 12, females 11, total 23. Attendance in days, males 173, females 138, total 311. Average daily attendance, males 9.11, females 7.29, total 16.4. Cases of tardiness, males 18, females 18, total 30. Cora Criss, Lonnie Kent, Mary and Connison Fultz were present every day during month: Ellen Fultz was absent one day. Visitors, 1. We will have a vacation till Monday Jan. 4, 1892. J. A. The school at district No. 24 has been in session one month ending Oct. 30, 1891. The enrollment is 28--14 girls and 14 boys. Those who have been neither absent nor tardy are Emma Peterson. Selma Sjogren. Hilda Anderson and Hartvig Holtman. We should be pleased to have friends and patrons give us an occassional visit, it would be an en couragement to teacher and pupils. Election day tomorrow. We shall have a precinct at school also. Mia Esbjorn, teacher.

Report of school district No, 43, Saline co., Kans., for the 2nd month, ending Oct. 30, 1891. Enrollment, males 12, females 15, total 27. Mary, Ellen and Alice Fultz, Annie Jipson, Annie Hanson, Alma and Clara Johnson, Hugh and Melvin Griggs were present every day during month; Cora Criss, Ellen, Lena and Carl Swanson, Andfrid Johnson and Connison Fultz were absent one day each. Visitors, 1. Come and see us. J. A. Ward, teacher.

Report of School Dist. No 48, Saline county, Kans., for the 5th month, ending Jan. 29, 1892. Enrollment males 12, remales 8, total 20. Cora Criss and Walter Griggs were present every day during the month. The la grippe has been an unwelcome visitor during the month. J. A. Ward, Teacher.

The fifth month of school in district No. 18 closed Friday January 29, 1892. Enrollment 13. Average daily attendance 12. Bessie and Martin Grider, Zella Miller, David Jones, and Norman Thomas were neither absent nor tardy. Frank, James and Clara Kouns were present everyday and tardy but once. No. of tardy marks 5. Maggie Perrill, teacher.

The school of district No. 24 has been in session two months of its second term ending Feb. 26, 1892. The weather has been quite favorable, but much sickness the cause ot the poor attendance. Enrollment for the month has been males 24 females 20 total 44. Number of tardiness 34, visitors 4. Those who have been neither absent nor tardy are Gust, Frank and Hartvig Holtman; present every day though tardy Bertha Holmquist, absent one day Eddie Ostenberg, Hilda Anderson and Annie Nelson. Superintendent Hillman visited the school Feb. 17 and Professor Jones gave the writing class the long looked for visit and a good time is reported. Mia Esbjorn, teacher.

The school in district No. 18 closed the sixth mouth, Friday, February 20, 1892. Eurollment 14, average daily attendance 13. Those neither absent uor tardy are Zella Miller, Clara James and Frank Kouns, Bessie and Martin Grider, Hollie and Eddie Dickerson, David Jones, Norman Thomas, Ella Thomas and Everett Jones were not tardy. Number of tardy marks 2. Visitors 2 Maggie Perrill, Teacher.

School report of district 55, for the month ending Feb. 1, 1889, is as follows: No. enrolled, 34 No. not absent, 9; average dally attendance, 29. Those neither absent nor tardy were Mary Hineman. Freddie Hineman, Harry Andrews, James Andrews, William and Wilber Hineman. M. V. Brotton, teacher
