A small village located on the east branch of Elk Creek, in the southeastern part of Republic county, 16 miles from Belleville, the county seat, 8 from Clyde, its nearest shipping point, and 150 from Topeka. ALBION.

A postoffice in the township of the same name, and north. east corner of Republic county, about 12 miles from Belleville, the county seat. Population of township about 400.



BELLEVILLE.

The county seat of Republic, was settled in 1872. and is incorporated as a city of the third class. It is located in the central part of the county, surrounded by a fine agricultural section in which stock and grain are extensively raised. Clyde on the Central Branch Union Pacific R. R., the nearest shipping point at present, is 20 miles distant. Belleville has 2 churches-Methodist Episcopal, and Presbyterian, and a graded school. Stage to Washington, Clyde, and Fairbury, Neb. A small settlement located near the Republican river, in the northwestern part of Republic county, 12 miles from Belleville, the county seat.



CUBA.

A postoffice established in 1874, located on Mill creek, in the eastern part of Republic county, 10 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 110 from Topeka. Clyde or Washington, on the Central Branch Union Pacific R. R., are the most convenient shipping points. Grain and hogs are the principal exports. Stage to Washington and Belleville. Daily mail. W. FENWICK.

The postoffice of a rural district, located on Elk creek, in the southeastern part of Republic county, 18 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 4 1/2 from Clyde, the nearest R. R. station. Wheat, hogs and cattle are shipped from this vicinity. Semi-weekly mail. John Canary, postmaster.



GOMERIA.

A small settlement formed in 1871 on Republican river, in the northwestern part of Republic county, 15 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 30 from Belvidere, Neb., the nearest railroad station. The principal shipments are wheat, corn and hogs. Weekly mail. J. B. Pollard, postmaster.



IDA.

A settlement formed about 3 years ago in the northwestern part of Republic county, 15 miles from Belleville, the county, seat, and 27 from Washington, on the Central Branch Union Pacific R. R. Fairbury, Neb., on the St. Joseph & Denver City R. R., is the most convenient shipping point. Principal exports, hogs, grain, eggs and butter. Stage to Belleville and Fairbury, Neb. A small settlement on Republican river, .in the west part of Republic county, 14 miles from Belleville, the county seat.



MINERSVILLE.

An incorporated village of about 85 inhabitants, settled in 1870, and located on West creek, in the southern part of Republic county, 12 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 7 1/2 from Concordia, the nearest shipping point. NEW SCANDINAVIA.

A settlement on Republican river, in the western central part of Republic county, 10 miles south of west from Belleville, the county seat.



NORWAY.

A settlement of about 10 families located in Republic county, 18 miles on the R. R. from St. Joseph, Mo., on the St. Joseph & Denver City R. R. Shipments, grain and live stock.



PRAIRIE GROVE.

A postoffice, Free Will Baptist church and district school house, with the house of the postmaster constitute the settlement. Situated in the township of Albion, in the northwest corner of Republic county. Wheat and hogs are exported from this section. The shipping point is Fairbury, Neb. The settlement is 29 miles from the county seat and something more than 200 miles from Topeka. Mail received once per week. E. W. Hall, postmaster.



PRAIRIE HOME.

A postoffice and school-house among outlying farms in Fairview township in the central eastern part of Republic county. Nearest railroad point in Hanover, about 30 miles distant.



PRAIRIE PLAIN.

A small settlement in Creek township, in the northwestern part of Republic county and a little more than 25 miles from Fairbury, a station on the St. Joseph and Denver City R. R.



PROSPECT.

A postoffice in Republic county.



SCANDIA.

A place of 150 population, settled in 1870 and located on Republican river in the western part of Republic county, 10 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 22 from Concordia, the nearest shipping point. It contains a grist mill, 2 churches, Methodist and Lutheran, and a district school. Shipments, grain and stock. Stage and mails daily to Belleville, Concordia, and Jewell City-tri-weekly to Seapo, semi -weekly to Jewell Centre and weekly to Spring Valley, Neb. A. B. Wilder, postmaster.

An unimportant locality in Scandia township, southwestern corner of Republic county.



SEAPO.

A village of 90 population, settled in 1874, and located in the southeastern part of Republic county, 12 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 80 from Topeka. It contains a grist mill, 2 churches, Methodist and Baptist, and a district school, and exports grain and stock. Daily stage to Clyde, the nearest railroad station, carrying the mail. Alonzo P. A settlement formed in 1870 on the stream from which it takes its name, in the southern part of Republic county, 9 miles from Belleville, and the same distance from Concordia, its nearest shipping point, and to which a stage runs daily, carrying the mail. I. A. Dunuse, postmaster.



WHITE ROCK.

A village of 50 population, located on the stream from which it takes its name, in the northwestern part of Republic county, 20 miles from Belleville, the county seat, and 35 from Edgar, Neb., the nearest station at present. Grain and live stock are the principal shipments. Stage to Scandinavia daily, carrying the mail. S. R. Morlan, postmaster.
