In the first issue of 1891, the Council Grove Republican published a list, of month by month, of the local events of the previous year--births, deaths, marriages, fires, accidents, etc. I have abstracted the death and funeral items from that list. These may not have been all the deaths mentioned in the paper that year (and certainly not all the deaths that happened in the county) but felt it worth including on this website.

January
3rd Mrs. Martha Hunter, age 83 years, died in East Council Grove
12th Mrs. Martha S. Maxey died, aged 73 years
17th Charles Coburn, son of Benjamin Coburn, died in Delavan
18th Martha E. McCullough dies at her home near Delavan
31st Mrs. Eliza Lenox Baxter, wife of June Baxter, dies at her home on Clark's creek, age 83 years

February
1st Mrs. Okley died at her home in Dunlap of lagrippe
14th Death of Mrs. John Davis near Kelso
15th E. S. Woodyard, brakeman on the M.K. & T., killed while crossing bridge near Dunlap
23rd Funeral services of Mrs. M. F. Hedges, conducted by Rev. L. Armsby, ten miles west of Council Grove

March
10th William Mayginnis died suddenly at his home two miles north of town
12th David Bisby, aged 97 years, 11 months and 5 days, died at his son's home near White City
17th Mrs. L. W. Isbell attends the funeral of her uncle Dr. J. W. Jackson in Kansas City

April
10th Death of Sylvester Hathaway on Short creek; burial Greenwood cemetery
18th Frank Bascum died at his home on Wrights creek

May
1st Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Edward, aged 82 years, at Diamond Springs
4th Death of Miss Susie Riegel at Wilsey
9th R. M. Conger attends the funeral of his father at Burlington, Kansas
13th Corial W. Rogers died at his home in Dwight of Bright's disease
22nd Charles E. Ward, switch fireman, killed in Missouri Pacific yards
23rd Death of Dale Barber near Dunlap
26th Death of Maggie Harper
30th T. J. Higgins attends the funeral of his mother in Chicago

June
1st Mrs. Alfton commits suicide near Parkerville
3rd Mrs. W. S. Jenkins commits suicide
7th Death of Hallie Patterson, daughter of M/M James Patterson in East Council Grove
14th Death of Mrs. Mary Holthouse, aged 73 years
28th C. W. Pattison killed by falling from a tree
30th Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gieson burned to death in their home on Big John

July
9th Death of William Gillespie's little child; burial in Parkerville cemetery
10th Death of Mrs. Catherine Riely in Neosho township
11th Death of William Pritchard on Clarks creek; burial Plymouth, Chase Co.
17th Mrs. James A. Harris who died in Denver is brought to Council Grove for interment
18th Death of A. O. Owens' youngest child near Parkerville
30th Death of Sarah Katherine Baker, daughter of M/M J. W. Baker in East Council Grove, of diphtheria

5th Harvey Swansen/Swanson, aged 2 years, killed by a train near Delavan
23rd Death of Mrs. Pule Yeakley near Dunlap
28th Joseph Stuckey killed on the Gildemeister farm while assisting to raise a pump from a well.

September
7th Death of Mary Winfield
8th Death of Frederick Voegle at Kelso
21st Burial of James Seamans in Greenwood cemetery
28th Death of Mrs. Joseph Noggle near Parkerville

October
8th Death of J. T. Stevenson's six week old boy
12th Death of J. V. Dwiggins in Elm Creek township
16th Death of Jimmy Hudson
23rd J. V. Aiken died at the residence of his son, D. B. Aiken, after an illness of only three days
26th Death of W. H. Valentine

November
3rd Death of Mrs. Anna Fourney near Beman
10th After a painful illness of three months, Capt. Byron Barrett died at the residence of Dr. S. D. Barrett in Diamond Springs township
10th Daniel Runkle, president of Council Grove Water Works, died at his home in New York

December
14th Alexis Johnson, 11 year old son of N. A. Johnson of Sampletown accidently killed by the discharge of gun
15th Death of Lester Valley at LaJunta, Colorado
