Former resident Mrs. Charles A. Ackenhausen, late of Worland, Wyo., died at 11:30 o'clock Sunday night in Cheyenne, Wyo. The former Margaret Belle Kretsinger, she was a sister of Martin L. and William S. Kretsinger, of Emporia. Funeral services will be held in Emporia at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning in the Roberts-Blue Funeral home. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery. She was born in Emporia December 31,1876, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac W. Kretsinger. and was married to Mr. Ackenhausen here 30 years ago. She is survived by her husband, her two brothers in Emporia, and another brother, Douglas Kretsinger, of Denison, Texas. (abstract, Emporia Gazette, Monday Oct. 23, 1939)

Miss Hannah Bowers died early Monday morning at the home of her brother, Fred H. Bowers, sr., 514 Market. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Bowers home. Interment will be made in Staplewood cemetery. Surviving Miss Bowers are one brother, Fred H. Bowers, and one nephew, Fred H. Bowers, jr., both of Emporia. and several nieces and nephews living in Philadelphia.(abstract, Emporia Gazette, Tuesday, July 12, 1927)

Walter Collier, a young colored man who lived out on Peyton avenue, died Sunday of typhoid fever. He been sick about five weeks. (Emporia Gazette, Thursday, Aug. 31, 1899)

William Cupp, living near Chicago Mound, died Friday morning. He is a relative of Jerry Cupp of this place. Funeral was was held Saturday morning at the Chicago Mound church. (Emporia Gazette, Thursday, Aug. 31, 1899)

James Elliott died at his home one and one half miles east of Olpe, Friday, November 10, 1899. Deceased was born in De Kalb County, Illinois, December 7, 1841. He was married to Miss Sarah A. Tunks, Oct. 3, 1867. Two children were born to them, Mrs. H. L. Soule and Mrs. D. I. Martin, both residing in Olpe. He served in the war of the Rebellion from 1861 to 1865 and was a very patriotic member of the G.A.R. He suffered a paralytic stroke seven years ago from which he never recovered. He was a consistent member of the Church of God. In his death the community loses a noble citizen and a kind friend and the family a loving husband and father. The funeral services were held Sunday at the M.E. Church. Rev. Harkness preached an able sermon from Psalms 90-12. A large concourse of friends followed him to his last resting place in Pleasant Ridge cemetery. (Emporia Gazette, November 23, 1899)

Mrs. Augusta Fromm, a widow aged 80 years, died Wednesday evening of typhoid fever at the home of her son, Henry, near Neosho Rapids. The funeral occurred Thursday at Chicago Mound church.(Emporia Gazette, Thursday, Aug. 31, 1899)

Cottonwood Falls, Oct. 23.�Funeral services for Richard Ernest Granger, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard Granger of this town, held Saturday afternoon. Services were in the Christian church at Matfield Green and burial was in the Matfield Green cemetery. Rev. George Bond was in charge of the services. John Thomas Hellyar, 46, of Hartford died at St. Mary's hospital this morning, following an operation for appendicitis. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hellyar of Hartford, three brothers and two sisters: D. C. Hellyar, and Cynthia Pickett of Hartford; J. A. Hellyar of LaHarpe; Mrs. Hattie Murphy of Bartlesville, Okla., and W. G. Hellyar of Colorado City, Colo. The body will be taken to Hartford tomorrow morning and the funeral will be held there tomorrow afternoon. (Emporia Gazette, Saturday, Nov. 23, 1911)

The funeral of Miss Mattie Hoover, who died Friday at the Parsons Hospital, will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the home of here sister, Mrs. Harry Stubbs, of Hartford. She will be buried at the Hoover Cemetery, four miles east of Hartford. (Emporia Gazette, 12-16-1912)

Reading, Oct. 23. � Wilbur Ellis Jones, 45, of Whittier, Calif., died September 22 in a hospital in Los Angeles. He was born near Reading, September 13, 1894, and he married Miss Lela Merle Wheat, January 18, 1916. They lived several years on a farm near Harveyvllle, then moved to near Ottawa. They moved to California in August, 1937. The wife and two daughters, Zola snd Evelyn, survive. He also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. John Davis, of Reading; Mrs. L. G. Wagner, of Garden City, and Mrs. Ernest Van Sickle, of Reading; five brothers, Edward, of Emporia; Isaac, of Reading; Joseph, Charles and Lesley, of Garden City. Cherie Lou Maynard, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Maynard, 1025 Merchant, died this morning in a local hospital. The little girl was born early this morning. (abstract, Emporia Gazette, Tuesday, July 12, 1927)

The community was shocked Thursday to hear of the death of Mrs. Mary Wright Parrington at the home of her husband, Dr. John Parrington, in Durango, Colo. She left a baby girl but a few days old. Her husband and her stricken parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Wright and her brothers have the sincerest sympathy of the community. Mrs. Parrington grew up in Emporia. She was loved by all who knew her. Her death will be a personal sorrow to hundreds of people here. A telegram was received Wednesday telling of her illness, and her father and brother, Lee Wright, left on the evening train. Ralph Wright received the telegram telling of her death, which occurred early Thursday morning. An older brother, Volney Wright, is traveling for his health in California and his whereabouts are unknown. So far, no telegrams have reached him. (Emporia Gazette, Thursday, June 14, 1900)

Lucy, the 14-months-old child of H. Peck, round house foreman, died Friday of summer complaint and spinal meningitis, The funeral was held at the Catholic church at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. (Emporia Gazette, Thursday, Aug. 31, 1899)

Charles W. Thornton, who died Wednesday at his home in Madison, was born in Morgan County, Ohio, Nov. 10, 1839. He moved with his parents to Pekin, Ill., and there he spent his youth and early manhood. At the age of 21, he enlisted in One Hundred Forty-seventh Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and served throughout the Civil War. He returned to Pekin in 1867 and in August of that year was married to Miss Louise Zanies, at Havana, Ill. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Thornton, six of whom, with their mother, survive. The children are Mrs. A. L. Cable, of Eureka; George A. Thornton, a merchant of Fowler, Colo.; Mrs. Ed Pritchard, and Lawrence, William and Harry, all of Madison. All the children are married and there are several grandchildren. Mr. Thornton was stricken with paralysis March 20, and did not rally from its effects. All his children were with him during his last illness. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic Order, the A. O. U. W., and the Grand Army of the Republic. The funeral was held this afternoon at the Madison Methodist Church, the Masons having charge of the services. The interment was in No. Eight cemetery, east of Madison. The Thorntons came to Madison in 1870 and are among the towns most respected and best known people. (Emporia Gazette, Friday, March 28, 1913)

Robert McN. Todd, for many years a resident of Emporia, died July 7 at the Provincial Mental hospital, Essondale, British Columbia, Canada. He was a cousin of Mrs Walter M. Davis, 1028 State. Burial was at New Westminister, B. C., Canada. (abstract, Emporia Gazette, Tuesday, July 12, 1927)

William Wise, who was injured in a runaway Friday, died Saturday evening at 7:10 o'clock at the home of his mother, Mrs. Christopher Wise, 205 State street. Friday afternoon he was driving a fractious horse on Fourth Avenue, when the horse ran away, upsetting the cart and throwing Mr. Wise against a tree with so much force that he broke several ribs and suffered internal injuries. Mr. Wise was born in 1866, three and a half miles north of Emporia. He received his education in Americus schools. He moved to Emporia in 1888, in which place he has lived ever since. He is survived by his mother, two brothers, George C. Wise of Tulsa, and Orlo F. Wise of Emporia, and a sister, Mrs. W. E. Hornbarger of Big Springs, Texas. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the home. Burial will be in the Americus Cemetery. (Emporia Gazette, 12-16-1912)
