Leavenworth County Marriages
Lewis-Gist Wedding, Oct. 9, 1879


The marriage of Edward J. Lewis to Miss Minnie Gist, daughter of John Gist of High Prairie township, took place at the father's residence at five o'clock on Thursday evening, Rev. J. P. Bauserman officiating. The attendants of the bride were Miss Katie Budd and Hattie Snell and of the groom were Arthur Gist and John Hardesty.

The bride was attired In white Paris muslin, trimmed with valenciennes lace, with veil and orange blossoms and diamond ornaments. Her attendants wore white Paris muslin, trimmed in pink and blue, with gold ornaments. The gentlemen wore the regulation dress.

The ceremony was performed In the open air and was a most beautiful and impressive one. After congratulations had been tendered, the guests partook of a most sumptuous supper.

THE GUESTS were very numerous and were as follows: James Hardesty and wife and R. G. Hardesty and wife, of Weston, Mo.; William Wilhite and daughter, Kansas City; P. W. Budd, Charles Moore, Dr. W. B. Wood, Russell McCune, Harry Wood, J. W. Pierson, Samuel Trower and wife, John Murray and wife, T. K. Wilson and wife, John Thompson and wife, Orla Carney, Z. A. Mason and wife, Henry Snell and wife, Dr. T. G. V. Boling and wife, Charles Gist and wife, of the county; P. G. Lowe and wife, W. D. Kelly and wife, J. W. Niehaus and wife; Wm. Small and wife, Joseph Walters and wife, from the city; also L. A. Stone and sister, Miss Lou Snell, Jennie Moore, Jennie Murray, Minnie Scott, Ida McCune, Ida Hutchinson, Allle Trower, Sarah Trower, Rose Budd, Mollle Budd, Lillie Wood, William Gist and Mrs. Thatcher, of the county, and many others whose names have slipped the memory of the reporter.
