FAIRMOUNT. A place of about 200 inhabitants, settled in 1865, and located on the Kansas Pacific Ry, in the central part of Leavenworth county, 8 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, 27 from Kansas City, Mo., and 59 from Topeka. It contains a Presbyterian church and public school, and exports corn and hogs. Telegraph, Western Union. Express, K. P. Ry., United States and Adams. Daily mail. T. J. Stout, postmaster.

FALL LEAF. A station on the Kansas Pacific Ry., located in the extreme south of Leavenworth couhty, 36 miles by rail from Leavenworth, the county seat, and 31 from Kansas City.


FORT LEAVENWORTH. A military post located on Missouri river and the Missouri Pacific Ry, in the northeastern part of Leavenworth county, 3 1/2 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, and 64 from Topeka. It is the principal military depot in the west for supplies of ammunition and stores for troops stationed at the other forts, and has a wharf, several large warehouses, 2 churches, Catholic and Episcopal, and a post school. The population, which is principally made up of 9 companies of U. S. infantry, is constantly changing. Telegraph, Western Union. Express, United States. Stage every two hours to Leavenworth. HUND�S STATION. A small colony on Salt creek and the Kansas Central Ry, settled in 18 54. It is locatad in the northeastern part of Leavenworth county, 4 1/2 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, and 55 from Topeka. Shipments, wheat and hogs. Tri-weekly mail. Wendelin Hund, postmaster.


JARBALO. A rural district settled about 20 years ago, and located in the western central part of Leavenworth county, 13 miles from Leavenworth the county seat, and 7 from Tonganoxie on the Kansas Pacific Ry, the nearest station. Semi weekly mail. Charles Stewart, postmaster.


KICKAPOO CITY. Was first settled during the summer of 1854. It is located on the Missouri river and Missouri Pacific Ry, in the north-eastern part of Leavenworth county, 7 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, 66 from Topeka, and 34 from Kansas City. It contains a broom factory, 3 churches�Methodist, Baptist and Catholic, and a common school. Wheat, corn and potatoes, are the chief shipments. Express, United States. Daily mail. Population 200. LANSING. The location of the State Penitentiary, 1 1/2 miles west of the Missouri river, was first settled in 1864. It is in Leavenworth county, 5 miles south of Leavenworth, the county seat, and 60 from Topeka, and contains a population of about 100 outside, of convicts. The manufactories are confined to the penitentiary, and are principally in wagons, carriages and boots and shoes. Telegraph, Western Union. Daily mail. J. W. Lansing, postmaster.

LEAVENWORTH Leavenworth is the largest, most populous and Wealthy city in the State. It is situated on the west bank of the Missouri river, two and a half miles below Fort Leavenworth, the largest, most valuable and choicest reservation belonging to the military department of the United States, and the most important military post in the west. It is the headquarters of the Department of Missouri, and one of the loveliest spots, both by nature and art, belonging to the United States in the west. here is no healthier or more pleasantly located city in the west than it is, or that has better or brighter prospects in the future. A village located on Big Stranger river, in the northern part of Leavenworth county, 14 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, 3 from Easton, on the Kansas Central Ry, its nearest shipping point, and 41 from Topeka. MOORE�S SUMMIT. A station on the Leavenworth branch of the Kansas Pacific Ry., in the central part of Leavenworth county, 15 miles from Lawrence and 19 southwest of Leavenworth.


MOUNT OLIVET. A postoffice located at the head of Salt creek in the western Part of Leavenworth county, 6 miles from Leavenworth the county seat and most convenient shipping point. Pleasant Ridge, on the Kansas Central Ry., 3 1/2 miles distant is the nearest station. Mail, 4 times per week. H. M. Dubois, postmaster.


PLEASANT RIDGE. Is in the township of Kickapoo, northwestern portion of Leavenworth county, 8 miles distant from the county seat, and within 1/2 of a mile of the Kansas Pacific Ry. Shipments are made direct to this point. Meat and stock are the exports Two churches, Southern and Northern Episcopal Methodist, are located here. Mail three times per week. A settlement formed in 1854 near Stranger river, in the western part of Leavenworth county, 14 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, 6 from Easton, on the Kansas Central Ry., and 40 from Topeka. It contains a church for the Society of Friends, and a district school, and exports corn and stock. Mail, 4 times a week. Population, 100. C. C. Kessinger, postmaster.

STANWOOD. The postoffice of a settlement formed in 1868 by a colopy from Toledo, Ohio, and located at the headwaters of Nine Mile creek, in the southwestern part of Leavenworth county, 20 miles from Leavenworth, the county seat, 6 from Tonganoxie, the nearest station, and 30 from Topeka. It is an excellent farming section, much fine grain and live stock being raised. Semi-weekly mail. H. R. Muncie, postmaster.


TONGANOXIE. Was first settled about 1865, and is incorporated as a city, located on Tonganoxie creek and the Leavenworth Branch of the Kansas Pacific Ry., in the southwestern part of Leavenworth county. It contains a corn mill, 4 churches, Congregational, Methodist, Friends and Christian, a public school and 2 hotels. Principal shipments, grain and live stock. Leavenworth, the county seat, is 21 miles distant, and Topeka 46. Express, Kansas Pacific Ry. Daily mail. Population, 350. H. W. Rice, postmaster.
