Widow of Captain Charles F. Clarke, 6th Kansas Cavalry


Charles F. Clarke mustered in as Captain, 6th Kansas Cavalry, Oct. 4, 1861 at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and appointed Assistant Adjutant-General with the rank of Captain, June 12, 1862.

Charles F. Clarke died December 10, 1862 at Memphis, Tenn., of diphtheria complicated by scarlet fever.

Charles Francis Clarke, Sgt. Major, 1st Dragoons, U.S. Army and Mary MacGowan, Jefferson Barracks (and native of Co. Leitrim, Ireland) married Dec. 28, 1850 in Lewis Co. MO by Anthony O'Ryan, R.C.C., Carondolet, MO; witnesses, Patrick C. Miles and Ellen Ryan,

Mary Clarke, Certificate No. 23174, admitted to pension rolls May 16, 1864, at the rate of $20 per month, commencing Dec. 10, 1862; also $2 per month for each child under the age of 16 years, commencing July 25, 1866

Mary Clarke dropped from rolls on account of death; last paid May 4, 1900 at the rate of $20 per month.
