ALIDA. A postoffice for a farming community, settled in 1858, on the Republican river, in the northwestern part of Davis county, 8 miles from Junction City, the county seat, and 79 from Topeka. There is a station here which is merely used when there is grain to be shipped. Daily mail

JUNCTION CITY. Was first settled in 1858. It is incorporated as a city, and has a population of 2,100. Located at the junction of Republican and Smoky Hill rivers, in the central part of Davis county, of which it is the county seat. It is the northern terminus of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Ry, and the southern terminus of the Junction City & Fort Kearney branch of the Kansas, Pacific Ry, 71 miles from Topeka, and 138 from Kansas City. It contains 2 flour mills, 6 churches, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Congregational. Catholic and Episcopal, and 2 schools. The principal shipments are grain, live stock and salt. Stage to Kimeo and Elmdale. Telegraph, Western Union. Express, Adams and Kansas, Pacific Ry. Daily mail. Wm. S. Blakely, postmaster.

MILFORD. A station on the Junction City & Fort Kearney branch of the Kansas Pacific Ry., located in the northwest corner of Davis county, 13 miles from Junction City, the county seat, and 84 from Topeka, Republican river runs through the village, but is not utilized as a water power, the saw and flouring mills here being run by steam. Milford has 3 churches�Congregational, Methodist and Christian; a public school and 2 hotels. Its shipments are grain and live stock. Express, Kansas Pacific Ry. Daily mail. Settled 1861. Population 300. W. T. Jaquith, postmaster.
