How to obtain Newspaper copies - FHGS

HOW TO OBTAIN COPIES OF ARTICLES

IN THE NEWSPAPER INDICES

First the Flint Hills Genealogical Society would like to THANK Robert "Bob" and Lois HODGE for allowing us to share their wonderful indices on these web pages. It is a resource that has helped many Lyon County Researchers, and will continue to help many in the years to come. THANK YOU!

Microfilmed copies of the Lyon County Newspapers are housed at the Emporia Public Library, Emporia State University, Kansas State Historical Society, and a few "EARLY" issues can be found at the Lyon County Historical Society. You can view this at all of the above locations and you can make copies as, they all have microfilm copy machines.

If you are unable to visit the places listed, you can order the microfilm from the Kansas State Historical Society on Interlibrary loan, for use in your local library. They usually loan FREE of charge, and you will have about 1-2 weeks to read the microfilm before it is to be returned. {CLICK HERE for Interlibrary Loan Information, and to find the roll number of microfilm you will need.}. They will make copies, subject to their usual reference services policy which is $10.00 fee for out-of-state, plus cost of copies. The Kansas State Historical Society ask for only ONE (1) FULL NAME request at a time, so getting them on interlibrary loan is the suggested action.

You can write to them at:

Kansas State Historical Society

SW Sixth Ave

Topeka, KS 66615-1099

The Emporia State University will also loan out the microfilm on interlibrary loan. You will need to contact your local library for information on how to order it in for you. This is important, as some of the special rolls, can only be obtained from them. (refer to previous page)

The Emporia Public Library will also make copies for you. Their usual fee is $10.00 an hour, plus copies. You can write to them at:

Emporia Public Library

110 E. Sixth Street

Emporia, KS 66801

Email them by clicking here:

The Emporia Public Library ask that you limit your requests to10 copies at one time. Please wait until your first request has been responded to before making another one. The Emporia Public Library staff is limited to the amount of time they can spend on research. Please be sure to put down all the newspaper information from the indices, FULL name, name of the newspaper, date of paper, and page/column information that is on the index. Without this information your request may not be able to be filled. THANK YOU!
