(Breckinridge and Madison counties)

Written by Lucina JONES, Regent Emporia Chapter

Daughters of the American Revolution, May 1933

In the early 1930's the Daughters of the American Revolution, Emporia Chapter were working very hard to collect and maintain the early history of Lyon County, Kansas. Lucina JONES was truly the Lyon County Historian of the time, and in years to come. Lucina wrote a some what detailed outline of the settling of this area of Kansas. It lists the names of the settlers that came in the first years, and tells how many of the towns in Lyon County, Kansas got their start. This manuscript is filled with valuable research information for genealogist and historian alike.

It is broken down in 3 parts for posting on the internet. Remember this was written in 1933, and the original manuscript was typed as it appeared. There a few NOTES added to help the reader, but they are well marked. The only thing we changed was to make the surnames all caps so you could find them easier. The surnames are so a different color, to help your search. This is copyrighted by the D.A.R. Emporia Chapter, and it is posted here for research and information use only. Any copying or reprinting should be done with their permission.
