Douglas County Churches Plymouth Congregational Church, Lawrence Charter Members
Although the Plymouth Congregational church was organized in Lawrence in
1854 (the first Congregational church in the state), it did not have it
own church home until 1856 when a stone ediface was built at the corner
of Louisiana and Sixth street. The charter members of the church, most of
whom were New Englanders, were:
Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Lum Miss Anna Tappan (later
Mrs. O. A. Hanscom) O. A. Hanscom Charles Dickson Oscar Harlow Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Litchfield Samuel C. Pomeroy Franklin Haskell.
