Robert H. Riley

ROBERT H. RILEY

"Uncle Bob", as he is spoken of by his friends, came here in 1873 and has never been away since. He homesteaded the land now owned by R. A. Reasoner. He tells many good stories of the hard times of the early settlers. At one time he began to think he might go hungry but just as things were getting desperate a man came along and let Uncle Bill Love have a contract to make the stakes to lay out Oberlin. Love took Riley into the deal and they made five dollars each and got something to eat and from that time on he was never in such hard lines.
