Mrs. J. T. Harvey

              MRS. J. T. HARVEY

Mrs. Harvey was the first woman to live in Oberlin; her husband at that time, J. A. Rodehaver, homesteading the land which the city now stands. Her husband built the Oberlin House and for many years they attended the wants of the traveling public and the hotel had an enviable reputation as a homelike place where the weary traveler could rest and get something decent to eat.

Later she obtained a divorce from Rodehaver but she still continued to run the hotel and did not allow its reputation as a good place to stop to retrograde. Finally tiring of the hotel she sold out; soon afterward marrying Edward Gilmore, a prosperous farmer of Garfield township. Mr. Gilmore died some ten years ago. Last year she married J. T. Harvey; they have a very pleasant home in the city.
