Martha A. Holland was born October 5, 1870 in Gates county, Cora Peake, N. C. She was united in marriage to George W. Luke, April of 1894, and to this union were born two children. Her husband, George Luke, preceded her in death in 1894.

She was united in marriage to Seth E. Holland, January 8, 1902. To this union were born two children. This husband, too, preceded her in death in 1910. She also had two sons and one daughter to precede her in death.

Mrs. Holland moved to the Coldwater community with her daughter, Eunice. In April of 1921 she moved to her daughter's home in Coldwater and lived with her daughter, Eunice, and son-in-law, John Schenk, for the last 36 years.

Mrs. Holland did practical nursing for several years.

Mrs. Holland was a member of the First Christian church of Coldwater and was baptized November 26, 1958.

She passed away March 1, 1965 at the Comanche County Hospital at the age of 94 years, 4 months, 23 days.

She is survived by one daughter, Eunice Schenk, her son-in-law, John Schenk of the home, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, Clovis, N. M., several sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom reside in North Carolina and Virginia; also eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She leaves a host of friends who mourn her passing.

Mother Holland knew what it was to walk and talk with God; she was one given to much prayer and Bible reading and had worn out four or five Bibles through study and prayerful mediation. Her sunny smiles and affectionate way will be missed by all whose lives she touched, and especially those of the home.
