Robert Booth Dies At the Age of 83 years

On Thursday, June 1, 1961, at 2:30 p.m. funeral services were held for Robert Booth in the Wilmore Federated church, Wilmore, Kans.

Rev. Jerald K. Hooley and Rev. Ernest Lawrence conducted the service. Mrs. Frances Ridge was the organist and accompanied Walter Smith as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Flower bearers were Ruby Booth, Pauline Bond, Madeline Booth, Ruth Baker and Rachel Booth.

Pallbearers were John Booth, Donald Booth, Charles Booth, Jack Bond, Fred Booth and Ed Baker. Honorary pallbearers were C. O. Masterson, Tom Pepperd, Earl Ferrin, Jim Greenleaf, Carl Keller, Howard Brass, George Perkins, Fay Moberley, Herbert Parkins and Alva Trummel.

Interment was in the Wilmore cemetery, Wilmore, Kansas.


Robert Booth, son of Samuel and Christina Booth, was born February 2, 1879, at Morris, in Grundy County, Ill. At the age of seven he moved with his parents and brothers and sisters to Kiowa county, Kansas. He lived there until his death at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg on May 29, 1961. He was 83 years, 3 months and 27 days old.

He was united in marriage to Effie Jane Maltby on April 8, 1908. Their entire married life was spent together at their farm home north of Wilmore. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary three years ago.

To this union were born eight children, three having preceded him in death. Two sons died in infancy and one son, Robert Jr., who was killed in action in France, July 9, 1944. Survivors include his widow, Effie and five children, Lester Booth of Haviland; Mrs. Mable Hadley, Coldwater; Mrs. Amy Ring, Mrs. Rowena Snyder and Ivan Booth of Wilmore; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is survived also by one brother, James, of Coldwater and three sisters, Mrs. Belle Wright of Belvidere, Mrs. Christina Griffin and Mrs. Hattie Wood of Wilmore and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Bob, as he was known to all, was a devoted husband and father. His life was devoted to his home and his work.

Services Held for Mrs. Effie Booth

Mrs. Effie Jane Booth, 86, died Thursday afternoon, April 13, 1972, enroute to the hospital at Greensburg.

Funeral services were held at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater, Kans., on Sunday, April 16, 1972, with Bernard Plumb officiating.

Mrs. Frances Ridge, organist, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. LeeRoy Cline as they sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers were Homer Swindler, Norman Hadley, Charles Uhl, Richard Wood, Fred Booth, and Charles Booth. Interment was in Wilmore cemetery, Wilmore, Kans.


Effie Jane Maltby Booth, the daughter of Charles E. and Sarah Adamson Maltby was born August 22, 1885 in Pratt county, Kansas and passed away April 13, 1972 at the age of 86. Her folks were pioneer settlers there. They moved to Comanche county about 1900 where she met and married Robert Booth April 8, 1908. They were married in a double ring ceremony with her brother, Ben, at her parents' home in Wilmore.

Their entire married life was spent together on their farm north of Wilmore in Kiowa county. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary three years before her husband passed away May 29, 1961.

She was a member of the Christian church.

Eight children were born to this union, three sons preceded her in death. Charles Robert, who died at two months in 1920 and an infant son who died in 1925. Robert, Jr., was killed while serving with the Army in France July 9, 1944.

She is survived by three daughters, Mable Hadley of Medicine Lodge, Kans., Amy Ring and Rowena Snyder of Wilmore, two sons, Lester of Haviland and Ivan of the home. Eight grandchildren (one grandson, Ricky Booth, preceded her in death in 1969) and 12 great grandchildren.

Two sisters: Mrs. Amy Price of Salida, Colo., and Mrs. Alice Howard of Pratt, Kans., one brother, Ben Maltby, of Fillmore, Calif.
