Elmer Frink came to his death by drowning in the Republican River on July 4, about 11:30 a.m.  He, in the company of Mr. Edmonds and one or two other men, went down to the river for a bath, and after they had been in the water a short time, some 200 yards above the dam, Frink decided to swim to the other shore. When about half way across he called to the others for help.  Two of them swam toward him but before they could reach him he went down the last time, and they were unable to save him.  His body was recovered two hours later.  Mr. Frink was about 25 years of age and he was married a few months ago to the daughter of Mr. Hawkenberry.  He was a quiet, unassuming young man.  His parents and relatives live in New York City.  He leaves a young wife who has the sympathy of the whole community.  (Clay County Democrat, July 8, 1886)
