JULIUS ALTON SCHAUBEL. Son of Mr. G. A. Schaubel, formerly of Randolph, Kans. Julius enlisted in the U. S. Navy, May 1, 1917, and was sent to the Gr. Lakes Training Station, where he contracted pneumonia which resulted in his death, June 18, 1917. He was sent back and buried at Holton, Kans., June 21, 1917. Julius was 21 years. 4 months and 20 days old at the time of his delath.





JOHN PAUL SLADE Son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Slade of Clay Center, Kans. John entered the Officers Training School at Camp Funston, Artillery branch, completed the course and was given a commission as 2nd Lieut., in the Artillery and sent to Ft. Sheridan. Sailed for France, Dec. 12, 1917. Upon his arrival there he was attached to the 121st Field Artillery 32nd Division. After a short time of intensive training he was promoted to the grade of 1st Lieut. and placed in charge of a battery of French Artillery with whom he served until his death, Sept. 17, 1918. John was married to Miss Mildred Dyer of Emporia, Kans., Dec. 7, 1917. He was born in 1893, and lived in Clay Center the greater part of his life.



(no picture available) CARL SUPRENANT Son of Camille Suprenant (Deceased) of Clifton, Kans. Carl enlisted in the U. S. Army and served with Co. C. 139th Infantry 35th Division until his death, October 10, 1918.
