Clay County Military
Pension File of Phebe Harris Money, Civil War Widow

Below are links to images of Phebe Harris Money's pension file. Mrs. Money lived in Clay County from at least the mid-1870's to the late 1880's. She is on the 1875, 1880 and 1885 censuses, as well as on the "Pensioners of 1883" list. In the papers below are listed facsimiles of her marriage to James Money, and the birth dates (and some death dates) of her children. The children listed were Miles Money, James Money (1), James Money (2), George Money, Pheba Money, John Money, William Money, Melinda Money and Daniel Money. At least some of the children came with her to Clay County--the family had formerly lived in Indiana, Newton and Harrison counties, Missouri and Hancock Co., Illinois, and may have lived in Iowa, as James Money, her husband who died in the Civil War, was mustered into service at Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Alexander Money, who also lived in Clay County (and is buried in Greenridge Cemetery, just over the Dickinson Co. line from Gill Twp.) was probably her brother in law.
