JACOB MILLER FAMILY OF CLAY COUNTY, KANSAS

Jacob Smith MILLER was already residing in Sherman Township, Clay County, Kansas by the time of the 1870 U. S. federal census. Jacob was born 6 December 1837, at Guernsey County, Ohio. He married 28 September 1865, at Naples Illinois (Scott County), to Anna GILSON, who immigrated from County Mayo in Ireland as a young girl. Jacob Miller and Anna Gilson were both residing on the same farm in Scott County, Illinois, at the time of the 1860 census. Jacob Smith Miller served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted on 14 August 1862, at Naples, Scott County, Illinois, and served as a private for the duration of the war in the 129th Illinois Infantry, Company I. He mustered out on 8 June 1865, and later received a military pension.
