 James Bownds was born 1766 in Rockingham, NC. His wife was Mary Crocker, born 1776.
Their son, John Bownds (also spelled Bounds), born August 8, 1802, married Mary Coley, born August 24, 1808. They were married Dec. 11, 1822.John Bownds came to Texas in 1852 with his wife, Mary, their six sons and five daughters. Their family Bible was printed that same year. He listed his children in the Bible and also stated that his father, James Bownds, was born in Rockingham, NC in 1766 and his mother, Mary Crocker, was born in VA in 1776. The following births and deaths of their children were taken from their Bible record kept by John Bownds and wife, Mary:
1. Elizabeth Bownds was born Oct. 1824. She died Sept. 1826.
2. Nancy Bownds was born July 29, 1826. She was married Jan. 12, 1842.
3. Benny Bownds was born Oct. 11, 1828. He was married Aug. 8, 1850.
4. James Bownds was born Feb. 7, 1831.
5. Martha Bownds was born Jan. 15, 1832. She was married April 15, 1850.
6. Susan Bownds was born April 14, 1834.Died Nov. 29, 1872.
7. William Bownds was born Jan. 20, 1836.
8. Andrew Bownds was born May 16, 1838.
9. Jane Bownds was born Jan. 7, 1841.
10. John Bownds was born Nov. 25, 1842.
11. Adaline Bownds was born Dec. 24, 1844. She died April 1849.
12. Benton Bownds was born Oct. 16, 1826. Died April 1849.
13. Morgan Bownds was born June 25, 1848.
14. Maryann was born July 21, 1850 in MS. She married in 1867 to John Powers Offield, born in Washington Co. TX in 1841. They are both buried at San Gabriel, TX.
