Leon Raymond Bembenek, 68, of 160 Bear Run Drive, Drums, a former resident of Mount Carmel, died Monday at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Mount Carmel on Aug. 16, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ann (Szymanska) Bembenek. He had resided in Drums for the past six years, previously living in Mount Carmel. He had been employed as a foreman at Lukens Steel in Coatesville. Bembenek was a member of Our Mother of Consolitation Church, Mount Carmel; the American Legion and VFW, both of Mount Carmel; served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Kauffman; eight children, Mrs. Robert (Marie) Bowers, Sterling, Va.; Mrs. Gabriel (Annette) Tulli, West Chester; Charles Litz, New Providence; Gregory Litz, Amarillo, Texas; James Litz, Houston, Texas; Raymond Litz, Claymont, Del.; Timothy Litz, Media; and Stephen Litz, Claymont, Del., and one brother, Joseph Sr., Baltimore, Md. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday in the Our Mother of Consolitation Church. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. CJ Lucas Funeral Home, 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel.
