LORRAINE HOTEL

Built as the BERRY BUILDING in the early 1900s, this structure was soon to become first the Sapulpa Hotel, and later the Lorraine Hotel.

The Sapulpa Hotel was a well-known landmark in the downtown area.

Early in the morning of Friday, December 2, 1949, the fire alarms rang and Sapulpa firefighters were summoned to a blazing fire at the historical Lorraine Hotel on the corner of Main and Lee Streets in downtown Sapulpa.

The local emergency teams soon saw that this was going to be a very volatile situation, and they quickly called for units from Tulsa, Bristow, Sand Springs and Drumright to come to their aid.

Two guests of the hotel died in the blaze, and some were injured, one seriously. The following articles were taken from both Sapulpa and Tulsa newspapers who did feature stories on this devastating fire.
