Kentucky Newspapers on MicrofilmAvailable for Use and Interlibrary Loan |
Effective August 1, 2005, the University of Kentucky Libraries Reprographics Department became the Preservation Reformatting Center (PRC). http://www.uky.edu/Libraries/libpage.php?lweb_id=127&llib_id=13<ab_rank=4 The initial focus of the PRC is to resume filming of current Kentucky newspapers and to fill duplication requests from the Master Negative Collection. The Reformatting Center microfilms current Kentucky newspapers and distributes copies to repositories throughout the state. In addition the Reformatting Center provides copies to institutions or individuals who want to purchase copies of microfilm from the master negative archives. From 1983 to 1991, the UK Libraries PRC participated in the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded United States Newspaper Project (USNP). During KNP, as it was dubbed in Kentucky, the PRC (then called the Microfilm Center) microfilmed almost 1.5 million pages of historic Kentucky newspapers. Microfilm will normally be shipped within 2-4 weeks, or if it is a large order (50 or more reels) count on 6+ weeks. You will be invoiced with your film order so you do not have to pre-pay or put down a deposit. Information about purchasing can be found on the website at http://www.uky.edu/Libraries/repropm.html. If you prefer, you may call or email Marie Dale at 859-257-3329 or mebank00@uky.edu, to request an estimate or place an order. There are also some miscellaneous reels that have as many as 30 titles on
a single reel. These are usually single issues and not a complete run. Search the Kentucky Newspapers Database
