"Pid" Young:
"Pid was killed in
a car wreck on New Years Eve. Pid was a mechanic with a heart of Gold. No one
ever needed help that he didn't do all he could to help them.
He was extremely well liked and had a big smile for everyone he met, or
said hello to. He was very proud of his wife Edna and his stepdaughter Jean. He
was a hard worker and like Will Rogers, " he never met a man he didn't
Like". His auto accident was a tragedy for everyone. He owned his own auto
repair shop at 15th and Walnut Street in Abilene for many years. At the time of
his death he was employed by Brown and Root Construction Company.

seventh child of Burt and Minnie Young, she was born in Cooper, Texas and die in
Abilene. Estelle was first married to Carrol Scott who was a very wonderful man
and a best friend to the Young family for many years. Carrol owned an auto
repair shop, and machine shop at the corner of 16th and Walnut. His father was a
friend of Estelle's mother, Minnie, they were about the same age and celebrated
their birthdays on the same day.

Lorene Young:
Dorothy was killed in
an automobile accident on a sunny July afternoon, her younger sister was with
her and was severely injured, but survived the accident. The accident occurred
near Ballinger, Texas, a few mile from San Angelo. Her Funeral was held at
Elliott-Hamil funeral Home in Abilene. The Elliott's were friends of the
Cunningham's, and have buried many of them.
Dorothy was in the
Corps of Women Ordinance Workers during World War II, and was stationed at the
following places, Boeing Aircraft in Ft. Worth, Barksdale Field in Louisiana,
Camp Barkley in Abilene, Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Pueblo
Ordinance Depot in Pueblo, Colorado.

"Shorty" Cunningham:
Marvin was a wanderer
and didn't stay in any one place for a great period of time. You never knew
where he might turn up next, He worked in the oil fields and was a truck driver,
he went where ever the work took him. He sometime drank a lot and could be a
very unpleasant person when he was drinking. In his later years, he gave up
drinking and became a very pleasant and likeable person, he had many friends.
He was extremely proud
of his grand children, he loved them all but his favorites were Louis, Ken the
second, and Cheryl, probably because he knew them best. He nicknamed Kenny #2
the "Fuzz".
The Fuzz was what the
called the boss in the oil field.
He died in a motel room
in Midland, Texas where he had come to visit his younger brother on vacation. He
managed a brokerage and weigh station in Colton, California, He also stabled
horses for several Hollywood stars.
Marvin was married
three times, had three children by his first wife, Dorothy Lorene Young. After
his divorce he married Doris Knudson, and later Christine Lightfoot, who had
thre children, Peggy Hughes, who lives in Grand Prairie, Texas, Jimmy, who lives
near Odessa. Christine's youngest daughter was raised by "Shorty",
Sheila knew him
as her dad.

"Ginger" Caldwell, ..."My father Burt nicknamed me after a calf.
He said I was like his little ginger calf, and the name stuck. When I was very
young we moved from Delta County out to the plains; the men in the family were
seeking work. I remember very little, but I do remember Momma had her sewing
machine on the wagon and had it unloaded in order to make me a little pair of
shoes. When I was a young girl I remember Camp Barkley and all the soldiers in
Abilene. Lorene, Frances and I had a very good time ! After marrying Howard we traveled because of his work with
Brown and Root. I love laughing, cooking and traveling with my daughter Sandra,
especially to see the mountains or any place we decide to go. When I had good
feet I loved to dance. I could waltz across Texas, and have, and I have said
when this wonderful life is over, "Turn out the lights, the party's
over". My life reminds me of Momma quilts, a patch work from wagon trips
and wagon yards, to men walking on the moon, and email versus snailmail. I have
two grand grandsons, Stephan and Bradley, two great grandsons, Justin and Shyler,
and one precious little granddaughter, Emma. And I have Sandra who has shared
her life with me. My life is very full" This is a direct quote from Aunt Ginger, and from what I
hear, she is still dancing her way across Texas, but now she's doing it on a
three wheeler named "Runkry".

Cunningham:
Ken was born near
Justiceburg, Texas, a three building community about eighteen miles southeast of
Post, Texas, the County Seat of Garza County. He was born on a dry land cotton
farm during the great depression and the historic "Dust Bowl". The
family soon moved to Elmdale, Texas, a small community near Abilene, Texas,
where they operated a service station and grocery store on old hi way 80, before
the Interstate Hi way days. The building still stands but has not operated since
about 1985, the playpen that was built to keep Ken away from hi way traffic was
built with bed rock and chicken
wire and still stands.
Ken served in the US
Navy, first on the Heavy Cruiser CA-75, USS Helena, then with the Udt-Seal unit
at Coronado Island, California, and was on the staff of Commodore Kavannagh
followed by Commodore Fritz Gliem, the senior officer in the Navy at that time.
Some of the ships traveled on were the USS Geo. Clymer, APA 27, USS Henrico, The
Talladega, The Renville and several others.
After leaving the Navy
he worked for the CFI as a steelworker, owned a wholesale egg company, managed a
Wholesale Paper Co. and had a consulting business before teaching school at the
college level.
Ken attended the
following colleges and universities, Pueblo Junior College, Red Rocks College,
University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University and the University of
Minnesota. He is now retired in Denver, Colorado.

Jerry Served in the US
Air Force for four years and returned to Pueblo, Colorado where his mother and
stepfather were residing. He worked for awhile for the Colorado Fuel & Iron
Corp, he also worked for the Dana Corp. for sometime then went into surveying
which he pursued for many years. Jerrys wife Sandra was a high school teacher in
Pueblo for over twenty five years, she retired in 1999. Jerry Died of a
neuromuscular disease in October 1999.

Bobby grew up in
Abilene, Texas but moved to Colorado to spend his teen years with his mother and
stepfather. He was accidentally shot in the head at about the age of twelve by
one of his friends while playing with the friends fathers gun. He was partially
paralyzed for awhile but after surgery the recovered to lead a normal life
except for some periods of depression. He served in the US Air Force, took up
the profession of optician, got married to a nice school teacher from Minnesota
where he moved in about 1965. They had four beautiful children, two boys and two
girls. Bobby died in 1975. Bobby had a beautiful smile and was an easy guy to
like, he had many friends.
