J. C. Haden Dies Here Early Today
J. C. Haden, aged 85 years, retired pioneer Durant merchant, died this morning at 1:20 o'clock at his home, 409 West Beech Street. His death came after a week's illness, but he had been in ill health for the past two years, and last summer sufferent an illness with almost proved fatal.
Mr. Haden, who was engaged in the drygoods business here for 21 years, prior to his retirement in 1919, was born at Springfiled, Ky. (actually Missouri), July 4, 1852. While yet a child he came with his parents to Ladonia, texas, where they made their home for years. He was married in 1874 to Miss Permilia Moore at Ladonia, and to the union were born four children, all of whom survive him. She passed away in Durant, Feb. 13, 1907.
With his family, Mr. Haden came to Durant in 1899 when he engaged in the mercantile business with his sons, J. P. Haden and A. C. Haden. While active he was prominent in the civic life of Durant and in church work. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and took an active part in the church work.
Besides his wife, whom he married here December 1, 1909, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carol Low, Dallas, and Mrs. Emma Haynes, Durant; two sons, J. P. Haden, Durant, and A. C. Haden, McAlester; one brother, Joe Haden, Ladonia, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Pickens, Quanah, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at the Holmes funeral home chapel, Friday afternoon at 2:20 o'clock with Rev. R. C. Miller, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

He is buried Highland Cemetery, Durant, Bryan Co, OK.

James Clayton "Jimmie" HADEN and Permelia C. MOORE were married on 16 July 1874 in Fannin County, Texas.142,150,153 Permelia C. MOORE73,155, daughter of Enoch Jasper MOORE and Sarah Ann MCMAHAN, was born in December 1854 in Barry County, Missouri.155,156 She died on 17 February 1908 at the age of 53 in Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma.

The 1880 Census says that "Amelia" was born in Texas; her father and mother born in Alabama.

In 1900 Pamelia gave birthplace of her father and mother both as Tennessee. She had 4 children, all living.

I believe I found Permelia in Fannin Co TX in 1870. Information from the TXFANNIN mail list indicated Enoch Jasper Moore, married Sarah Ann McMahan - she died in Ladonia on 23 Jan 1867 at age 37. Their children listed as Permelia C., Samuel M., George G. and Cornelius N. Moore. 1870 Census in Ladonia, Precinct 3, household 137 has Jasper More, age 35, b. TN. Mary, age 40, b. TN and keeping house - this would no doubt be a new wife since Sarah had died in 1867. The children seem to be a blend of two households. Purmelepy [Permelia] age 16, Samuel 13, George 11, Nathan [Cornelius N.?] 9 and Jasper age 7, all born in Missouri. Granville, age 2, born in Texas. Louise Merick 17, Curdeley [probably Cordelia] 15, Nanny 13 and Sue or Lee, age 11 - all four of these girls born in Texas and possibly children of Mary and her first husband.

MRS. JAMES C. HADEN DEAD
Died Yesterday in Durant, Okla. Formerly lived in Ladonia
Yesterday evening at 7:30 o'clock, Mrs. J. D. Haden died at her home, on Fourth avenue, of gastritis. She had been sick for several weeks and her death was not unexpected. When death came her bed was surrounded by her entire family and loved ones, who had battled so hard to save the precious life of the wife and mother, but who now was being taken to another home in that heaven prepared for those who do His will.
Mrs. Haden, at the time of her death was fifty-years of age. She was a member of the Baptist church in Durant and has always been an active church worker, having joined the church in 1871. She was born in Barry county, Mo., in 1853, moving with her parents to Ladonia, Tex., in 1865; was married to J. C. Haden in that place in July 1874. They remained there until they moved to Durant in 1899, where they have remained, Mr. Haden being engaged in the mercantile business in connections with his two sons, Albert and John.
Joseph B. Haden of Ladonia and John W. Haden of Bonham were both present when the end came.
The funeral service took place this afternoon at the Baptist church, Rev. Stubblefield conducting the services.

James Clayton "Jimmie" HADEN and Emma J. SIMS were married about 1910.73 Emma J. SIMS73,157 was born on 22 February 1866 in Texas.73 She died on 12 October 1957 at the age of 91 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

In 1910, Emma & James had been married 1 month. Enumerated in May. Two of the children listed with the household may have been hers. She stated she had three children, all living. There was a male, probably "Carl" Low, age 20, "son to wife", Single. He appears to have married James' daughter Katie in the next few years. There were two girls in the household, both age 17. Both could be "Katy" - did the enumerator count James' daughter twice or is one of them a daughter of Emma's - the name could be Ruthe Low. The names are difficult to read as the enumerator's handwriting is poor. One of the daughters born TX, parents born in MO as was the young man's (which makes no sense). The other daughter is said b. OK, father b. AL, mother b. MO - this would not fit James' daughter.

Emma and James Haden had apparently been married about 20 years at the time of the 1930 Census. There are three step granddaughters listed in the household: Dorothy Matthews, age 13, born in South Carolina, Christie Matthews, age 10, and Betty Matthews age 8, both born in OK. They might be daughters of Ruth Low.
