DAVID JEFFREY WALTON
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – David Jeffrey Walton, 104, passed away at South Point Terrace Care Center in Jacksonville on Tuesday, July 31.
Memorial services will be held at the Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road in Poland, on Thursday, Aug. 16. Family greeting will be at 10 a.m. the memorial service at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Mr. Walton was born in Denver, Ill., a son of F. Edwin and Myrtle Horney Walton.
He had been employed with United Airlines in many locations throughout the United States, last serving as Sales & Service Manager at the Youngstown airport.
He was a 1929 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. There he lettered in football and baseball and was a member of the R.O.T.C. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he obtained the rank of First Lieutenant.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and was an avid golfer, which he played until the age of 99. He participated in the golf section of the Senior Olympics five times over a ten year period, winning two bronze medals, two silver medals and one gold medal. He was an active member of the Poland United Methodist Church for 44 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Walton Linneman of Lafayette, Calif.; and son, Timothy J. Walton of Orange Park, Fla. He is survived by five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Walton; his parents; his sister, Beulah L. Walton; his brother, Harry D. Walton; and his son, Michael J. Walton.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested by the family to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
