137. Daniel HARDIN was born by 1770. He died before November 1828 at the age of 58 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. He was adopted.

Daniel Hardin was said to be raised by William & Winifred. His relationship is unknown. He is thought to perhaps be a son of Jesse, a brother to William, but Jesse's existence is somewhat questionable. He is also thought to have been a brother to Polly Hardin who also may have grown up in the same household. Polly's mother has been suggested as Margaret Huston, who also lived in Breckinridge Co. I have even considered, given that Daniel seems a bit older than William & Winifred's children that he might have been a child of William's from a brief earlier marriage.

DNA tests on 10 men of this heritage have close matches and include a descendant of Daniel, so there is no question he is a Hardin. <http://www.hhhdna.com/hhh.htm>

The children and their data as given here were found in a Jolly database online. I did find census records in support of the information.

14 Jun 1783, Daniel Hardin received a warrant, #5244, for 400 acres in Jefferson Co. It was surveyed 20 Nov 1783 and on the Beech fork branch of Clover Creek of the Ohio, below the falls of the creek. Patented dated 2 Dec 1785 [the same day William Hardin received several patents] PB X, p.485. KY Grants 5, p.524
On the same day, William May received a grant for 270 acres and it was on the south branch of Clover Creek adjacent Daniel Hardin, his southwest corner, Meriwether's line, Joseph Lewis's line, corner to John Hardin and his line. This record indicates Daniel was an adult by 1785; the children of William and Winifred were probably born circa 1775 and following.

I found online that Daniel traded the above warrant to Capt William Hardin for 400 acres on Sugar Tree Run, near the Lodiburg/Union Star Road. When his son Joel, married Abigail, Daniel bought 100 acres nearby and gave it to them.

1807. Listed in "A Checklist of KY Cabinetmakers" Daniel Hardin of Nelson Co, KY, partner of A. Chinn, had apprentices.

Purchasers included Alis Hardin (widow), Hadasa Hardin, Nelson Jolly, Benjamin Huff, Joel Hardin, Daniel Hardin. Ales Hardin and Joel Hardin, signed.

15 Apr 1836, Daniel Hardin Jr. petitioned the other heirs of Daniel Sr for 100 acres of land he was to have received when he married. He and his infant son had lived with his parents. At that time Alcy was given 1/4 of the acreage and 1/4 of the profits, leaving 250 acres.

Parties to the deed were Joel Hardin & Abigail his wife, Thomas C. Bandy & Mahala his wife, Dudley Haynes & Polly his wife, Jacob Baysinger & Hadasa his wife, Francis Basham & Thursey his wife, Aaron Rawlings for his deceased wife Marenda, and Henry Basham & his wife Casandra - all of the county of Breckinridge - to Daniel Hardin Jr. of the same. All agreed that he was to have the 100 acres with the exception of the mansion house and 1/4 of land and profits which belongs to Ailcey, his mother, during her natural life. Signed by all parties.

8 May 1838, Daniel Jr. and second wife Susan sold their 100 acres to Francis Basham, his brother-in-law.

3 Jan 1845, the heirs of Daniel Hardin SR sold the remaining 250 acres to Felix Mattingly for $400. The children and spouses signed the sale documents except for Marenda Hardin Rawlings who had died before April of 1830, and for Daniel Hardin Jr. However, a Joel Hardin signs for Daniel Jr - he must have been his only heir. There were 7 shares, each received about $57.

Daniel HARDIN and Alice JOLLY were married on 19 August 1790. Alice JOLLY, daughter of Nelson JOLLY and Mary GRAHAM, was born about 1767 in Pennsylvania. She died after 1870 at the age of 103 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky.

Jolly researchers say that Alice parents were Nelson Jolly and Mary Graham.

Nelson Jolly was born in Bucks Co PA in 1740. He married Mary Graham there and his sister Alice married John Coombs. Soon after their marriages in the 1760's the two families began to migrate south and west.. In 1767, Nelson was found in Ayr Township of Frederick Co VA. He lived for a time in the area of present day McConnellsburg PA when it was Bedford Co. Both he and John Coombs served in the Bedford Co Militia in 1777.

In the Spring of 1784, Nelson Jolly & John Coombs with their families navigated the Rivers to the Fall of the Ohio, settling at the mouth of Beargrass Creek for about a year. In 1785 they moved to Hynes' Station [Elizabethtown today]. He bought a 200 acres tract in Severn's Valley on Buffalo Creek. and is on the tax records there. A 1796 membership roll of the Severns' Valley Bapt Church lists Mary Jolly who had transferred her membership from there by that date. Nelson last appeared on the tithable rolls in Severns Valley in 1789.

In 1789, Nelson Jolly purchased four town lots in Hardinsburg, Hardin Co [later Breckinridge Co], from Capt. William Hardin. His sixteen-year-old son James was shot by Indians within a few days of the move to Hardin Co. Daughter Alice, was married to Daniel Hardin on 19 Aug 1790.

Jolly information says that Alice was about 103 when she died. A FindAGrave memorial states she was born 1763, Fulto Co, PA, and died 1870, Lodiburg, Breckinridge Co KY and is buried Hardin Basham Cemetery, #2. Husband Daniel also said to be buried there.

245	ii.	Polly Ann HARDIN was born on 9 February 1794 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. She died on 9 July 1886 at the age of 92 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Haynes was born 27 Oct 1786, Perry Co IN and died 10 Mar 1865, Breckinridge Co KY. He served in the War of 1812.

248	v.	Daniel HARDIN Jr. was born about 1805. Daniel is believed to be the young man living with his mother, Alice Hardin in 1830 - also in the household is perhaps his young son, Joel Hardin. Nothing is known about his first wife. Daniel married a second time to Susan Kellums and moved to either Perry or Pike Co, IN. May have married a third time to a Permelia, surname unknown. He was deceased before 3 Jan 1845, when his son Joel received Daniel's share of his parents property. Since Joel was the only one to inherit, it would seem he was the only child of Daniel Jr. 15 Apr 1836, Daniel Hardin Jr. petitioned the other heirs of Daniel Sr for 100 acres of land he was to have received when he married. He and his infant son had lived with his parents. 250	vii.	Thursia HARDIN was born on 21 June 1812 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. She died on 30 September 1852 at the age of 40. Thursia married Francis Basham, 8 Dec 1828. He was a son of Obadiah Basham and Celia Dowell, born 2 Jun 1807, Bedford Co VA, d. 22 Apr 1893, Lodiburg, Breckinridge Co KY. They are in Breckinridge Co KY in the 1850 census. Hh 663.
