485. Cornelia COMSTOCK218,232 was born on 29 June 1875 in Arkansas.98 She died on 12 March 1893 at the age of 17 in Crawford County, Arkansas.232,300,319

John M. Mills, age 17, married Cordelia Comstock, age 14 on 16 Jul 1889. J. H. Branson, JP. License was issued 15 Jul 1889.

I have found her name as both Cordelia and Cornelia.

According to Homer Marshall of Uniontown, Cornelia and Mort were breaking a horse to ride and she was kicked in the head and died.
Buried in the Comstock Cemetery (age 17). Her husband is buried in the larger adjoining cemetery, next to Alice (Morton) Mills who was his mother.

There is a note in the manuscript file of John A. Comstock, that Cornelia's residence was Muskogee. This seems unlikely - perhaps her husband moved there for a time, but both are buried there in Crawford Co, AR. The place of residence was not in the book, so maybe J.A. Comstock also suspected this was an error.

"..and his family made their home in Uniontown, until Aug. 17, 1900, when he was ambushed by a man while riding his horse in the woods between Lee Creek and Uniontown. Morton died in the woods from the bullets of a left handed sharp shooter. Later a man by the name of Mr. Truitt was arrested and jailed."

Fatal Arkansas Duel
Van Buren, Ark., Aug. 20. Word has just been received here from Uniontown, a small inland trading point 20 miles distant, of a fatal pistol duel at that point Friday evening between Henry Truitt and Morton Mills, resulting in the death of the latter and wounding of the former. Bad blood had existed between the two men since Truitt's marriage two years ago. Friday afternoon they met in a country road, and each drew a gun and opened fire, Mills falling, shot through the heart. Truitt was able to mount his horse and fled toward the Indian Territory.
The same article appeared in The Forrest City Times, Forrest City, Ark., Friday, 24 Aug 1900.
