Edna Eugenia Comstock was born 18 Oct 1899, Uniontown, Crawford Co, AR. Her father was James Monroe Comstock of Uniontown, age 40, born McDonald Co, MO, Merchant. Mother was Lucretia Ellen Wood, age 38, born Douglas Co, Kansas. She was the 7th child - 6 children living. Signed by Lucretia Ellen comstock, parent, who lived at 524 N. 13th St., Van Buren. Affidavit made 18 Dec 1944.

28 Jul 1916 Uniontown High School made the 18th Annual announcement of the school and gave its history - there had been 150 common school graduates and 50 first year high school graduates and several had completed the two year High School course. Among the latter were Miss Minnie Hays, vocal & instrumental music teach of Van Buren, and Ira Comstock of the firm of Comstock & Rainwater Stock Co. of Oklahoma. All of the faculty were graduates - the principal was Gratis Comstock who had graduated in 1905 and taken a post-graduate course, and the primary teacher was Miss Edna Comstock who graduated in 1915 - Ira's younger sister.


Listed as a school teacher in 1920 Census, living in Ft. Smith with her parents. She was married later that year.

Marriage license recorded in Crawford Co on 11 Sep 1920, but took place the next day in Sebastian Co: T. L. Delzell, of Uniontown, age 26, Edna Comstock of Ft. Smith, Sebastian Co, age 20, were married 12 Sep 1920, by Paul G. Preston, Christian Minister, whose credentials were also recorded in Sebastian Co.

My grandmother's diary noted that on June 4th Edna had a stroke and was critical and the entry for June 6, 1956 says, "After waiting and worrying all day the bad new came. Edna passed away at 6:15."
Her entry for June 8: "Grace [Hays], Doc [probably Doc Farmer, a neighbor] and Bob Brown, our preacher, went with us to Miami to Edna's funeral - a long but beautiful drive; but what a sad day. My heart aches for Lester. All alone now. No doubt he will go right on with his business."

Mrs. Delzell Dies in Tulsa Hospital; Services Pending
Final rites were incomplete today for Mrs. Edna Delzell, 55, who with her husband, T. L. Delzell, owned and operated Delzell Drug Store, 101 North Main Street.
Mrs. Delzell died Wednesday evening in a Tulsa hospital where she had undergone surgery earlier in the day. She suffered a stroke Sunday night at her home, 131 G Street Northwest, and was admitted to Miami Baptist Hospital. She was transferred to Tulsa Monday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Delzell moved here six years ago from Van Buren, Ark. She was a past matron of the Miami Order of Eastern Star No. 107 and a member of the White Shrine. She was also a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Mrs. Mace Watson, Ft. Smith, Ark,; her mother, Mrs. J. M. Comstock, Van Buren; four sisters, Mrs. Nora Rainwater and Mrs. Maude Redman, both of Van Buren, Ark.; Mrs. Cy Carnery, Fayetteville, Ark.; and Mrs. Pauline Clark, Little Rock, Ark., and three brothers, Ira, Paul and Kenney Comstock, all of Van Buren. A son, Lester Delzell, died two years ago.
Final arrangements will be announced by Hutchins Funeral Home.

Edna Eugenia COMSTOCK and Tyre Lester DELZELL were married on 12 September 1920 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. Tyre Lester DELZELL355,367, son of Robert Johnson "Bob" DELZELL and Cordelia E. "Delia" REMY, was born on 6 October 1894 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.328,368,369 He died on 26 May 1972 at the age of 77 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.328

Arch Howell and Lester were boyhood friends. In Arch's account of growing up he talks about Lester's family getting typhoid fever and some of the older ones dying. Lester and Arch both came down with the fever. The Delzells' well was bad and had to be sealed up.

In 1937, my grandmother Adamson's twin sister married Fred Cradduck in Crawford Co, AR. The County Clerk who signed the Marriage License was T. L. Delzell.

T. Lester Delzell. Living at 616 Drennen St. They owned the home worth $2500 and were living there in 1935. [I remember visiting them here.] Uncle Lester was 45, b. Arkansas. He was at that time County Clerk for the Crawford County Courthouse - apparently had not yet bought the drugstore.

Tyre Lester Delzell of 616 Drennen St., Van Buren, was age 47, born 6 Oct 1894 in Uniontown, Crawford Co. Mrs. T. L. Delzell would always know his address. His employer was the Local Board Selective Service.
Draft registration of others show that Lester Delzell was the Registrar in Ft. Smith.

Uncle Lester had a drugstore in Van Buren, next door to Comstock, Inc. owned by Uncle Ira & Aunt Minnie Comstock. He used to make cherry cokes for me and let me read the Comic books without buying them.
