ABILENE - James F. Fry, 89, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at his residence in Abilene. Arrangements are pending with The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.

James "Jimmy" Fry passed away at his residence in Abilene, Texas, on Friday, December 18, 2009. He was 89 years old.
Private family interment will be at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
James F. Fry was born on August 3, 1920 to Alphonzo Fry and Bertha Mae Walker. The family moved to Breckenridge, Texas, where he graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1938. He worked in the drug store business until he moved to California to work in a defense plant which manufactured B-24s.
He returned to Breckenridge and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He served as a radio operator on B-24s during World War II.
On May 10, 1945, in Stockton, California, he married Martha Lee Thomas of Fort Worth.
After the war he went to work for Dunigan Tool and Supply in Graham, Texas, eventually transferring to Breckenridge and then to Abilene in 1954. He retired as a Regional Store manager in 1985.
He and Martha enjoyed traveling with their friends in their RVs and fishing in many of the lakes in the state.
He enjoyed reading Western novels and took great pride in his yard.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Ragland; and brother, Joe Fry.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Martha; his son, Jack R. Fry and wife, Sharion of Abilene; three grandchildren, Emery Fry (Terra) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sandra Morgan (David) and Jared Fry of Abilene; and great-grandchildren, D.J., Summer, and Ally Morgan of Abilene. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Jo Fry of Breckenridge and June Strange of Benbrook, as well as several nieces and nephews.
