BRECKENRIDGE -- Joe Fry, 84, of Breckenridge died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at a care center.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Bearden officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bethany Baptist Church or the Rebecca F. Fitzsimmons Memorial Foundation and left at Morehart Mortuary.
Billy Joe Fry was born May 27, 1925, in Ladonia to Alfonso "Fonnie" Fry and Bertha Mae Walker Fry. As a young child, Joe moved with his family to Breckenridge, where he would later graduate from Breckenridge High School in 1942. During World War II, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1943 to 1946. He married Georgeanna "Jo" Boswell on Sept. 8, 1944, in Hays, Kan. Following his honorable discharge from the military, the Frys made their home in Breckenridge.
In 1987 Joe retired as a chief inspector of road construction for the Texas Highway Department. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and reading. Joe was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Fitzsimmons; and one sister, Doris Ragland.
Survivors: His wife of 65 years, Jo Fry of Breckenridge; sons, Rex Fry and wife, Nina, of Carrollton and Steve Fry and wife, Jodi, of Mansfield; son-in-law, Jim Fitzsimmons of Valencia, Calif.; brother, James Fry and wife, Martha, of Abilene; and granddaughters, Amanda Jo Fry of Arlington and Morgan Fitzsimmons of Valencia, Calif.
