24. Samuel HIGGINBOTHAM¹⁴ was born about 1745 in Amherst County, Virginia.¹⁴ He served in the military in 1776 at Colonel Amherst VA Militia in Revolutionary War. He died about 1803 at the age of 58 in Elbert County, Georgia.¹⁴

1 May 1777 Aaron Higginbotham Sr to Samuel Higginbotham. 300 acres both sides Buffalo River for good will and affection to his son Samuel. Amherst DB D, p.514

Rose to rank of Colonel in the Amherst Militia; served in the Revolution. He was a tax collector, deputy surveyor, deputy sheriff and Justice in Amherst Co. Soon after moving to Elbert Co GA ca 1792, he was chosen a Georgia delegate to the 1795 Constitutional Convention.

In 1779, Samuel and his uncle, Col. James Higginbotham were Vestrymen of Christ Church, Lexington Parish in Amherst County.

5 Nov 1791 Samuel Higginbotham and Jane his wife to Philip Smith & Zacharias Taliaferro. 300 acres on Buffalo River granted to Aaron Higginbotham by patent 14 Dec 1749 and conveyed by deed 5 May 1777, to Samuel Higginbotham. Amherst DB 9, p.74

5 Dec 1791 Samuel Higginbotham and Jane his wife to Jacob Phillips. Two tracts on Buffalo River. 200 acres granted by patent 10 Apr 1781 to aaron Higginbotham and will to the said Samuel. Another of 140 acres on the side of Cold Mountain, south branches of the Buffalo River granted by patent to Samuel, 10 Apr 1781. Amherst DB 9, p.77

17 Sep 1792 Samuel Higginbotham to Aaron Higginbotham Jr. Three tracts of land, both sides of the Buffalo River. Amherst DB G, p.154 [I suspect the date is the date the deed was recorded.]

Samuel HIGGINBOTHAM and Jane SATTERWHITE were married about 1768 in Amherst County, Virginia.¹⁴ Jane SATTERWHITE, daughter of John SATTERWHITE and Ann GRAVES, was born (date unknown).

106	ii.	Ann HIGGINBOTHAM¹⁴ was born on 8 May 1772.¹⁴ She died on 21 April 1852 at the age of 79 in Clinton, Greene County, Alabama. Ann married William Fortson, 7 Aug 1794. Moved to Green Co AL. She died 21 Apr 1852.

108	iv.	Aaron HIGGINBOTHAM¹⁴ was born about 1778 in Amherst County, Virginia.¹⁴ Moved to Georgia as a boy. Lived in Bledsoe and Warren Counties, TN where he owned land prior to 1810. He discovered Cumberland Cave, 2nd largest in America, in 1810. It is said he ventured into the cave alone and was trapped for 3 days when his torch went out. He was found safe, but his hair had turned white.

110	vi.	Blackley HIGGINBOTHAM was born about 1780 in Amherst County, Virginia.¹⁴ He died on 26 August 1845 at the age of 65 in Wilcox County, Alabama. Name is listed in the DAR database as Blakely Higginbotham, which is possibly correct. Blakely died, Wilcox Co, AL, 26 Aug 1845. He married Mary "Polly" Fisher about 1818 - she died Canton, AL, 1862. 111	vii.	Claryssa HIGGINBOTHAM¹⁴ was born in 1783 in Elbert County, Georgia. She died in 1823 at the age of 40 in Franklin County, Georgia. Clarissa married Stephen Chatham, 5 Apr 1810, Wilkes Co, GA

George Green HIGGINBOTHAM²¹ was born on 15 July 1791.¹⁴ George married Sarah Fortson, 20 Feb 1817 3rd Book of Elbert Co Deeds, p.58 DB T, p.34 26 Feb 1822 Lemuel Pledger to Thomas Pledger Junr, for $400. 144 ½ acres in sd co. on South Fork of Beaverdam Creek, divided out to George C.
