18. Jacob HIGGINBOTHAM12,46,47 was born about 1751 in Amherst County, Virginia.9 He died in 1836 at the age of 85 in Elbert County, Georgia.12

Jacob and Ann were first cousins. They moved to Elbert Co GA ca 1784 along with Jacob's uncle Benjamin and his entire family. Benjamin was, of course, also his father-in-law.

William Pulliam was appointed administrator of his estate 7 Mar 1836.
Sale was recorded 19 Sep 1836; Buyers on 5 May 1836 included: Wm Pulliam, Francis Higginbotham, Thomas Hilley, John Higginbotham, John G. Higginbotham, Marhew Pulliam, Thomas J. Maxwell, William Maxwell, George Evinson, Jesse Maxwell, etc.

Some of the children of Jacob moved to Feliciana Parish LA with their uncle Francis Higginbotham. They included James, Jacob Jr. Benjamin, Joseph, Riley & Anne.

25 Apr 1855, Son John applied for a pension based on the Captaincy of Jacob in the Amherst Co VA militia. He gave the births of his siblings in his testimony. The claim was rejected as no proof of service was produced. Rejected File, #4977; Bureau of Pensions.
Mrs. Ophelia Maxwell Quillian nevertheless qualified for DAR membership based on the service of Jacob Higginbotham.

In the records of the National Archives under File.
No. R4977 is found the following:

Affidavit of John Higginbotham dated 21 Apr 1855
before a Justice of the Peace of Hart Co., GA in
which he identifies himself as one of the children
of Captain Jacob Higginbotham who served in the
Revolution from Amherst Co., VA, said Jacob having
been sent from Amherst Co. to General Green in
North Carolina at the time of the battle of Guilford
courthouse and that Jacob did not reach General Green
until the day after the battle was fought.

The affidavit further states that Jacob married his
wife Anne on 18 Oct 1772, that Jacob died in Jan.,
1836, and that the children of Jacob and Anne were:
Hannah, born 27 Aug 1773; James, born 13 Feb 1775;
Jacob, Jr., born 6 Jul 1776; John, born 9 Jan 1778;
Elizabeth, born 14 Jan 1780; Jane, born 3 Mar 1782;
Joseph and Benjamin, born 27 Feb 1784; Caleb, born
3 Apr 1787; Anne, born 11 Dec 1788; William, born
13 Sep 1790; Riley, born 22 Sep 1793; and Frances G.,
born 11 Dec 1796.

The affidavit of John further stated that Jacob, Sr.
died in Elbert Co., GA and the affidavit was
accompanied by a sworn statement of Thomas J. Maxwell
that he was acquainted with Jacob Higginbotham, Sr.
in his lifetime and that the Family Record is in
the handwriting of the said [Jacob] Higginbotham.
The affidavit and the sworn statement were both
witnessed by George Pulliam, JP.

[Submitters notes: Jacob Higginbotham, Sr. was the son
of Joseph and Hannah Higginbotham of Amherst Co., VA.
His wife Anne Higginbotham was his first cousin and
the daughter of Benjamin Higginbotham and wife Elizabeth
Graves, Benjamin and his family having also moved from
Amherst Co., VA to Elbert Co., GA. Some of the children
of Jacob Higginbotham, Sr. moved from Elbert Co. to
Feliciana Parish, LA along with several cousins from
Benjamin's family. See book "Higginbotham descendants
of Moses and Frances Kyle Higginbotham" by Earl and
Nena Higginbotham.]

William Everson to Frances Higginbotham [lineage unknown] on 9 Dec 1827. Could this be Frances, the youngest sister of John?

Jane HIGGINBOTHAM12 was born on 3 March 1782.12 She died in 1859 at the age of 77.12,47

DAR Lineage gives year of death as 1863.

Joseph HIGGINBOTHAM11 was born on 27 February 1784 in Amherst County, Virginia.11,12 He served in the military in 1812 at 10th & 20th Consolidated Regt, LA Militia in War of 1812. He died about 1824 at the age of 40 in Louisiana.11

Joseph married in Georgia and had a t least five children. He married 2nd to Elizabeth Taylor, widow of Ebenezer Taylor.

Moved to Louisiana in time to serve in the War of 1812 with his brother Jacob. They served in the 10th & 20th Consolidated Regt, Louisiana Militia along with their cousins Lindsey and Willis. Joseph and Benjamin were twins.

Anna married John Millican on 5 Oct 1812 in Amite Co MS. John and Ann moved to East Feliciana Parish LA but they appear to have left there by 1834.

This is believed to be the William Higginbotham that married Susannah Bonds on 29 Dec 1814.

Riley HIGGINBOTHAM11,49 was born on 22 September 1793 in Georgia.11,12

Riley moved to Feliciana Parish along with his brothers where there is an account in a store for goods purchased in 1820. There is a record of a Riley Higginbotham who married Lydia Alford in Green Co AL 2 Jan 1829 and later moved to Caddo Parish LA 1840-50. This may very well be the same person.
