Third Generation

17. William HIGGINBOTHAM9 was born about 1750 in Amherst County, Virginia.9

This is definitely not the William Higginbotham who moved to Elbert Co GA, as in 1799 it was necessary for him to give consent for his daughter Dolly to marry John Frazier in Amherst.

The two Williams, who were first cousins, this one son of Joseph, and William son of Benjamin & Elizabeth Graves Higginbotham who married Ann Sandidge's sister Dolly have been confused by many. Some databases show the William son of Benjamin, who moved to Elbert Co GA as having been married to both Ann & Dolly Sandidge. John Sandidge's will names both daughters, as living, and with the surname Higginbotham.

I do not know for sure if the following patents on Pedlar River are those of this William. I have placed them here because he was apparently the oldest of the William Higginbothams - his cousins of the same name, sons of Moses and Benjamin, were younger. Both Benjamin and Joseph had land on the Pedlar, but Benjamin's William was long gone to Georgia when there were still new patents being issued to this man.

William HIGGINBOTHAM and Ann SANDIDGE were married about 1778.9 Ann SANDIDGE, daughter of John SANDIDGE and Keziah GATEWOOD, was born (date unknown).

Both Ann Sandidge and her sister Dolly married William Higginbothams. The two men were first cousins. Ann's William was a son of Joseph, grandson of the "Widow" Higginbotham of Albemarle/Amherst. They remained in Amherst County. Dolly's husband William, was a son of Benjamin Higginbotham and Elizabeth Graves and they moved to Elbert Co GA along with Benjamin's family.

William HIGGINBOTHAM and Ann SANDIDGE had the following children:

i.

Dolly HIGGINBOTHAM9 was born (date unknown).

Married John Frazier, Amherst Co VA, 1799.

Benjamin C. HIGGINBOTHAM44,45 was born in 1786 in Virginia.45 He died after 1860 at the age of 74.

Benjamin is seen as a son of William & Dolly (Sandidge) Higginbotham. He is more likely a son of William's cousin, William Higginbotham, son of Joseph, who was married to Ann Sandidge - that would make him a nephew of William & Dolly. His wife was Rebecca. He died after 1860 in Clark Co, Arkansas.

Obviously the little girls, Mary, Frances, & Lucinda are granddaughters - they are not listed with a separate surname but still could have been Mary's daughters.
