Will Hume Dead
Will Hume, a resident of this place eighteen years ago, is dead from an overdose of laudanum at Indianapolis. He will be remembered as a drug clerk in this place when John A. Perril conducted a drug store here. The Indianapolis News of Tuesday gives the following account of his death:
"William J. Hume, forty-five years old, died at the City hospital at an early hour this morning from laudanum poisoning, supposed to have been taken to ease pain. He had eaten heartily of a Christmas dinner yesterday, which did not agree with him, and he was seized with cramps in the stomach. He bought some whiskey, in which he mixed laudanum, and took the mixture. He was heard breathing heavily at the New York restaurant, at 225 East Washington Street, about 6 o'clock yesterday evening. A physician was sent for and he was taken to the hospital in a dying condition. His relatives say he had never shown any intention to commit suicide and they think he did not intend to take his life yesterday. The coroner held an autopsy on the body today."
