20. Asenath HARMON was born on 12 November 1823 in Marion County, Indiana. She died on 20 June 1899 at the age of 75 in Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah.

Asenath first married William Gheen about 1842. She married second, Edward T. Mumford, 15 Apr 1856, Salt Lake City. In this marriage record she stated she was born 12 Nov 1823 in Marion Co, IN and her parents were Henry Harmon and Agnes Green. Her first husband William Ghenn had died in California, 11 Aug 1852.

In Conquerors of the West: Stalwart Mormon Pioneers, Vols. 1-2, she is listed with William Gheen as having arrived in 1849, Company E, Moses M. Markham Company.

Apparently married Hosea Stout, 9 Jan 1854, Salt Lake City. He had multiple wives. There is a divorce record dated 29 April 1854.
This case came on for hearing in the Probate Court for Great Salt Lake County on the twenty-ninth day of april AD 1854, on the petition of the plaintiff, Asenath Stout, the parties being present; and upon investigation of the complaint being fully advised in the premises, it was ordered and decreed by the court, that the bonds of matrimony existing between the said Asenath Stout and Hosea Stout be dissolved.
And it was further ordered and decredd by the Court, that each of the said parties shall retain the custody and control of their children and of the property owned or possessed by them respectively at the time of their marriage and that the costs of suit be equally divided between and paid by the parties.

In an old family letter from the 1880's, Asenath was taking a train from Salt Lake city to Chicago to see her sister Druscilla Dunlap. In a letter from the 1890s, Asenath mentioned her sister Druscilla Dunlop who was living at Chicago and another sister name Mary (married name unknown).

A daughter of Asenath's, Louisa Gheen, stated that she was born 28 May 1843 at Indianapolis so it would seem the family was still there in Indiana at that time.

Asenath HARMON and William GHEEN were married in 1841 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. William GHEEN was born on 27 February 1812 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He died on 19 August 1852 at the age of 40 in Mormon Island, Sacramento County, California.
In Conquerors of the West: Stalwart Mormon Pioneers, Vols. 1-2, William Gheen arrived in Company E, Moses M. Markham Company in 1849. He was born 27 Feb1812 in Goshen, PA. He had married Aseneth Harmon in 1841 when he was 29. He died 19 Aug 1852 in Sacramento, CA. His father was Joseph Gheen; his mother Hannah Osborne.

William 's parents were Quakers from Pennsylvania . After his marriage to Aseneth , they lived for a time in Indianapolis, Indiana , where their first child was born, but died. After their next child, a girl, was born, they moved to Nauvoo, Illinois . There was also another man by the same name, William Gheen , who lived in Nauvoo at the same time. William was a 1st captain in the Nauvoo Legion and fought in the battle of September 11th and 12th, 1846 . Following the battle he was baptized into the Church. His wife refused to be baptized until they could get to the Valley. In 1847 , William moved his family to Savanna, Missouri . He was a hotel keeper and prospered. In 1849 , the family crossed the plains and settled in Salt Lake . He opened a butcher shop on Main Street and Broadway. People wanted the meat but had little money to buy. Discouraged, William went alone to California . In 1851 , his wife and eight-year-old daughter were baptized and then went by stage to Sacramento, California , to join William . There on the bank of the Sacramento River , he established a hotel. He always said he would die at 40, and he did. He was buried on Mormon Island in the Sacramento River . Asenath HARMON and Hosea STOUT were married on 9 January 1854 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Untah Territory. They were divorced on 29 April 1854 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Untah Territory. Hosea STOUT was born on 18 September 1810 in Kentucky. He died on 2 March 1889 at the age of 78 in Holladay, Salt Lake County, Utah Territory.

Asenath HARMON and Edward Thompson MUMFORD were married on 29 October 1854 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. Edward Thompson MUMFORD was born on 27 June 1808 in Leyden, Lewis County, New York. He died on 12 July 1886 at the age of 78 in Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah.

First wife was Hannah Cann Crosby (1808-1883)

Arrived in Salt Lake with the Ezra T. Benson Company, departing 15 Jul 1849, arriving 29 Oct 1849.

Laid to Rest - the obsequies [funeral rites] of the Elder E. T. Mumford were held at te residence of his daughter, Mrs. Beatie, in the Twelfth Ward, at four o'clock yesterday afternoon, (July 14th) a large number of the relatives and friends of the family were present. The services were conducted by Bishop O. F. whitney who also offered the opening prayer. Appropriate discourses were delivered by Elder John Nicholson and Bishop Whitney, and the benediction was pronounced by Elder Rober Campbell. the singing exercises were rendered by a select choir, led by Brother Geo. D. Pyper.

He removed from there in 1818 to Chautauqua County in the same state. He resided with his parents till he was of age, and at the age of 22 years married Hannah C. Crosby, the issue of said marriage being two daughters and one son.
He embraced the Gospel about the year 1836 and journeyed to Nauvoo in 1840, and came to Utal in 1849. In May, 1856, he was one of a number called to settle at Fort Supply, near Fort Bridger, and remained there a year and a half. returning to Salt Lake valley on the approach of Johnson's Army. In 1863 he went to the Missouri River as captain of a company to bring the immigrating Saints to Utah. He resided in this city until two years ago, since which time he lived in Pleasant Grove, Untah County, where he died. He leaves a wife living in Pleasant Grove, a daughter, Mrs. M. T. Beatle of this city, and numerous grandchildren.
