26. Jacob HARMON^5,17 was born about 1823.³ He died on 21 April 1893 at the age of 70 in Spring Creek Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa.³

Jacob married Elizabeth Fansler, 15 Jun 1848, Hamilton Co IN. The license was dated the 5th of June. They were married by James H. Douthit, JP. The family is said to have moved to Black Hawk Co IA in 1853.

Living in Dallis Twp, Maysville, P.O. DeKalb Co MO, was Jacob's family. They were living in the houshold of Isaiah Stout and his wife Nancy and assorted children. Nancy was Elizabeth's sister - Isaiah, her second husband.

Online databases seem to have confused him with other Jacobs - there was a Jacob Harmon living in Pulaski Co IN in 1860, age 37 or born 1823, but he and his wife marked as born in France. She was Mary. Three children - James 8, Josephine 5, and Mary 1. He was not the son of Richard Harmon.

Son of Richard Harmon and Mary Parrish. He married Elizabeth Fansler and to this union were born the following children: James, Jacob, David F. and Thomas.

DIED. - Jacob Harmon, one of the oldest settlers of Black Hawk County, died last night at the poor farm, of paralysis, aged about 70 years. Deceased came to this county in 1853, settling on a farm in Spring Creek Township. He lived there until last fall when he was taken to the poor farm. He suffered two strokes of paralysis, the last of which proved fatal, as stated above.

LATER -- M. W. Gipe informed us this afternoon that Dave Harmon, brother of the deceased, is dying at his home in Spring Creek Township.

David Harmon, of Spring Creek, was buried there yesterday. He was a brother of Jacob Harmon, who died at the poor farm a few days ago.

Murder--- A.J. Yancey, a young and respectable farmer near LaPorte city, Black Hawk county, was deliberately shot down by Jacob Harmon, a few days since. He died almost instantly. There had been a dispute between them of some months standing. Harmon, who bears a bad character, had threatened the life of Yancey previously, and deliberately shot him down with a rifle, while he was at work in his field. He was arrested, and the public indignation was so great he narrowly escaped lynching.
Jacob was sent to the Fort Madison Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Lee Co., IA in 1857 for the murder of Andrew J. Yancy. It appears that he served a 10 year term for this crime. He was in the 1860 Census Fort Madison, Lee Co., IA.
