Catherine "Katie" Voos, 105, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2013, with her husband John holding her hand.
Katie was born on February 12, 1908, in Forbestown. She was the daughter of Ellmore and Araminta Dealey and sister to brothers Fred and Burdette. At the age of 10, she moved to Oroville where she attended grade school and graduated from Oroville Union High School in 1926.
Katie was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church joining at age 16. Katie worked for Butte County as a Deputy Co. Auditor and later as a deputy in the Assessors Office.
In 1941 she was introduced to a handsome gentleman names John Voos. They dated and fell in love. John was drafted in 1941 and they corresponded for four years. They married on May 8, 1945. In 1945, Katie retired and daughter Linda was born in 1946. She was a dedicated mother and a great cook. She was involved in Brownies and volunteered for various organizations, making many friends along the way.
Known for her beautiful penmanship, Katie was asked to write wedding invitations and wrote in the church memorial book for many years.
After John retired, they traveled to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii Mexico and Fort Bragg. They took many trips in their motorhome and enjoyed many years on Lake Oroville with their patio boat. John and Katie loved spending time with their daughter Linda and her husband Larry in Crockett, CA often taking trips together.
In 2009, they moved to Prestige Assisted Living where they made many new friends. Katie was amazed that she lived to be 105 years old. She attributes it to love of family and friends, God's will and especially her husband John.
It has been many years since she rode in a stagecoach from Forbestown to Oroville and back, a days journey. She couldn't begin to understand how computers worked and felt she had lived in the best of times. Life wasn't as complicated or fast paced and there were more flowers and open land.
Katie and John celebrated 68 years of marriage on May 8th.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents Ellmore and Araminta Dealey, brothers Fred and Burdette and son-in-law Larry Bell. She is survived by her husband John and daughter Linda Bell and many nieces and nephews.

John Fred Voos, 97, passed away on August 29th, 2013 after a short illness.
Johnny was the son of Adam and Matilda Voos, and loving father to Linda Bell. John was born on January 18, 1916, in Naper, Nebraska. He was one of 13 children. The family moved to Gregory, South Dakota where they farmed until the drought and dust storms forced them to sell.
Johnny headed for California to join family living in Sacramento. Here he started working for Safeway and eventually ended up working in the Oroville store. While working one day he met a lovely, young lady named Catherine "Katie" Dealey and he kind of fell for her.
Shortly after, in 1941 John was drafted into the army. He was sent to Australia and then to New Guinea in the 41st infantry division. John was a messenger in New Guinea and was awarded the Bronze Star plus 2 Gold Oak Leaf Clusters. Before he was discharged he went through all of the South Pacific Islands and ended up in the Philippines.
Upon his discharge in 1945 he married Katie on May 8, 1945. In August the following year daughter Linda was born.
Returning to Oroville John went to work for the Shell Oil Company owning John Voos Shell Service for 17 years. He then went to work for Currier Bros. Market and Raleys, working for 16 years and retiring in 1979.
Johnny loved golfing and fishing from the shore and from his patio boat. He and Katie spent many happy hours on Lake Oroville. They traveled to many states in their motor home. They also took trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. John and Katie spent many special times in Crockett, Ca with their daughter Linda and son-in-law Larry Bell.
John was never one to sit around. He exercised daily, loved to putter in his yard, tend to his flowers and help his neighbors.
He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and proud of the fact he helped build the church in its present location. John took an active part in the Lyons Club for many years.
Being from a very large family, family reunions were a special event. Some-times two sections of the park had to be rented in Elk Grove just to have enough room. Lots of love and laughter.
John and Katie loved music and to dance. Nat King Cole and the big bands kept their record player spinning and Lawrence Welk was on the t.v. every Saturday night.
John and Katie moved to Prestige Assisted Living in 2009 and were very happy, making many new friends. They celebrated 68 years of marraige in May.
