Martha Ann Fry applied for a pension on the service of Henry. 1 Apr 1919 at Hemphill Co, Texas. [see her notes] It is interesting that another Henry H. There are also applications for two of this Henry Fry's brothers.

Fannin Co Deed Book N. p. 103 Abraham K. Fry for portion assigned of my estate to my son Henry Harrison Fry, do convey tract in Fannin Co. Patent dated 12 Jun 1851, No. 658, Vol. 6, 3rd Class. Henry H. Fry first appeared on the Fannin Co tax rolls in 1865, following the War. He had no land - just his poll. By 1867, Henry was paying the taxes on the 120 acres from N. P. Martha Ann Fry applied for a pension on the service of Henry.

8 Jun 1912 Mrs. M. A. Fry made application for the pension of H. H. Fry. She stated he had died 12 Feb 1902, in Jones Co, TX. She was married to him on 29 Dec 1868 in Fannin Co, TX, and had not remarried.
The printed part of the application obviously gave the stipulations, given here in brief form - Fry did not desert. She had been a resident of Texas prior to 1 Mar 1880 and continuously since a resident. She did not receive money from any source to the sum of $150 per annum not did she hold any property over the value of $1500, nor did she receive any aid or pension from any other source.
She was 66 years old last Aug. 1911, Born in Roan Co, TN. Had lived in Texas about 53 years, the past 20 in Anson, Texas. Her husband's full name was Henry Harrison Fry. He served about 3 years in Company I, Alexander's Regiment, cavalry and infantry.
Signed with her signature. E. A. Fry and R. G. Ladd testified to the accuracy of the application.

14 Jun 1912. George Fry deposed before Joe C. Randel, Jones County Judge. He stated he knew Mrs. M. A. Fry had been a citizen of Texas, since 1880, in fact she had been since 1860. He gave his name as G. W. Fry, age 77 years, living in Ladonia, TX. Her personally knew H. H. Fry, his brother, since he was born in Marion Co, MO about 1847 or 1848. He knew his brother served in Company I, Alexanders Regt from 1862 to 1865 in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. He was not a commissioned officer; he served as a Private. In the Cross Interrogatories, he stated as brother to H. H. Fry they had belonged to the same company and regiment. He never knew any other soldier by that name in the Confederate Army. He was with him throughout the was. H. H. Fry never deserted his command or abandoned his post of duty. Signed G. W. Fry.

3 Jul 1912. Deposed was F. D. Cornelius before Jones County Judge, Joe C. Randel. During the Interrogatories he stated his name and that he resided in Hunt Co, TX, post office, Commerce. He was age 70. He personally knew H. H. Fry and M. A. Fry, first in the year 1855, in Ladonia, Fannin Co. TX. He personally knew that H. H. Fry enlisted in Company I, Alexanders Regt, Polignac's Brigade from Mar 3d 1862 to the close of the War in the Trans Mississippi Department. Fry was not commissioned as an officer, nor detailed for any special service. In the Cross Interrogatories, Cornelius stated he and H. H. Fry had enlisted at the same time in the same Company and served together through the war. He never knew or heard of any other soldier or sailor by the name of H. H. Fry. He is certain this is the identical person and that Fry never deserted his post of duty.

The Adjutant General of the War Dept did find that H. H. Fry, was a sergeant, in Troop I, 34th (Alexander's) Regiment, Texas Cavalry, CSA, enlisted Mar 3, 1862 and last appears on the roll as present, Jan & Feb, 1864. 6 Aug 1912.

Apparently the pension was not approved in 1912. There is no evidence that is was.

1 Apr 1919 at Hemphill Co, Texas. Martha Ann Fry stated she was married to Henry on 31 Dec 1868 in Fannin Co. TX. She was then age 72 - born in East Tennessee, "Rome" [surely Roane] County. She had lived in Texas since 1859. Her present post office was Canadian, TX and she had lived there only since Nov 17, 1918. Her husband never drew a pension - he died February 12, 1902. His command was organized in Texas and he enlisted in 1862 and served until the war ended. He served in Company I, Alexanders Regt, 34th Texas Cavalry Dismounted. She signed her name as "Mrs. Martha Ann Fry".
F. E. Fry and Lucien Fry, signed affidavit in Fannin Co that Mrs. Martha Ann Fry was a widow of Henry Harrison Fry, deceased, and they knew she had not remarried.
J. H. Roderick and J. H. Kincaid also signed affidavit in Fannin Co. Roderick was his Captain during the whole of the term of service and J. H. Kincaid, his 1st lieutenant. "After the close of the war in company with Mr. Fry we came to Fannin County and lived here practically as neighbors until Mr. Fry removed to West Texas, where he died."
Both affidavits signed 22 Apr 1919.

C. L. Fry enclosed a letter on the letterhead of Sanders & Jennings, Attorneys-at-Law, Canadian, Texas, on 26 Apr 1919, stating he was sending his mothers application for Pension.

5 May 1919. The Adjutant General, War Department stated that H. H. Fry was 4 Sgt in Co. I *34 Regt Tex. Cav. CSA. Enlisted 3 Mar 1862 and on roll Jan & Feb 1864 [last on file] and shown present. No prisoner of war record found. *also known as Alexanders Regt, TX CAV CSA. Not found as Henry H. Fry.

The pension was approved 15 May 1919, allowed from 1 Mar 1919, for Martha Ann Fry of Hemphill County Texas, Post Office, Canadian, Texas. #35845. Written across the approval is "Dead"

There is an application for Mortuary Warrant.
Charles L. Fry stated he was the person entrusted with the accounts and indebtedness of the late Mrs. Martha A. Fry, pension of State of Texas, file number 35845, Hemphill Co. Mrs. Martha A. Fry died 11 Aug 1930, in Canadian, Hemphill, Texas, at the home of Charles L. Fry, her son. Application is made for paying all or part of her funeral expenses. Signed by Charles L. Fry, 26 Aug 1930.
C. C. Stickley, undertaker, Canadian, Hemphill, Texas, had charge of the body of Mrs. Martha A. Fry who died 11 Aug 1930 and was prepared for burial by him on the same day. And he believed warrant should be issued to C. L. Fry

FRY, Martha, A. Aug 19,1845 Aug 11,1930 W/O H.H. Fry

Henry Harrison FRY and Martha Ann HAGLER had the following children:

564

i.

A. Oscar FRY162 was born on 11 August 1869 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.136,188,192 He died on 19 April 1904 at the age of 34 in Fannin County, Texas.

This child appeared to be "Osker" or in 1870. A. O. were the initials from 1880.

565

ii.

John Monroe FRY was born on 15 September 1870 in Fannin County, Texas.136 He died on 9 July 1885 at the age of 14 in Fannin County, Texas.

J. M. Fry is buried Ladonia Cemetery, Ladonia, Fannin Co. His grave marker says “J. M. Fry” and has the dates, born 15 Sep 1970, died 12 Nov 1888, son of H. H. and M. A. Fry.

566

iii.

Joseph Albert FRY was born on 20 October 1871 in Fannin County, Texas.136 He died on 13 November 1888 at the age of 17 in Fannin County, Texas.

A child, Halbert Fry, s/o of H. H. & M. A. Fry, is said buried, Ladonia Cemetery, with the dates b. 20 Oct 1871, died 12 Nov 1888 (20 Nov). There is also said to be a grave for Joseph Albert Fry, s/o of H. H. & M.A. Fry born 20 Oct 1871 and died 13 Nov 1888. Although it's possible there were twins and they died a day apart when they were 17, that seems unlikely - and only one of them was listed in the 1880 census as J. A. Fry. I believe the second entry to be correct - and the first to simply be a misreading of a very worn grave marker.

567

iv.

Ora B. FRY was born on 30 December 1872 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.132 She died on 9 March 1873 at the age of 0 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.132,162

Buried in Bourland Cemetery

568

v.

Erasmus A. FRY was born in May 1874 in Fannin County, Texas.136

Erasmus' birthday as May of 1873 as given in 1900, seems impossible if his sister Ora was born Dec of 1872. 1874 seems more likely for his year of birth.

1920 Census. Anson, Jones Co, TX, Hh 289, living with son Erasmus.
Erasmus A. Fry, age 46, b. TX, father b. MO, mother b. TN, carpenter
Beulah, wife, age 42, b. TX, both parents b. MO
Mabel, dau, 18, b. TX, clerk in bank
Henry, son, 17, b. TX, bookkeeper in bank
Amy, dau, 14, b. TX
Ruth, dau, 12, b. TX
Rosa L., dau, 6, b. TX
Mildred, dau, 3, b. TX
Martha A, mother, 76, widow, b. TN, parents b. TN

Erasmus must have died before 1930 when Beulah was head of household, still living in Anson
Beulah Fry, age 52, widowed, b. TX, parents b. MO
Amy, age 25, teacher, rural school. Ruth age 22, teacher, high school. Rosalie, age 16. Mildred, age 14.
J. Henry Fry, lived next door, now age 27. He had married at age 23, assistant cashier at the bank.
Ora, wife, age 26, b. OK
J. Henry Jr., age 2, and Erroll ?Dean, son, age 6 months
