160. JAMES FRANK PIPPIN3,69 was born on 25 December 1892 in Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee.46,70 He died on 9 August 1977 at the age of 84 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.46,70 He was a Farmer. JAMES was buried in Elmo Cemetery, Elmo, Kaufman County, Texas.

Came to Texas at age 17 (1909) and lived with William Henry Lansford. His daughter Lois referred to them as "Granny" and "Grandpap" although later she listed them as his maternal aunt and uncle. Harriet Lansford was an older sister of Papa's father Kinch. His mother had been dead several years, father had died even earlier.
He claimed to be one-quarter Cherokee. On his mother's side??? Have found absolutely no evidence - Pippin, Dennis, Bean descendants all say no to this. Daughter Juanita also denies any Indian blood.

Little Papa listed his name as James Frank Pippin, age 24, when he registered for the World War I draft. He was born in Gainesboro, Jackson Co TN. He had a wife and one child and was farming near Ladonia, Fannin Co TX. His description was short, slender, blue eyes, brown hair.

I have never found Papa Pippin in the 1920 census - he should have been right there in Fannin Co. I have examined the microfilm page by page.

1930 Census. Jim Pippin living in Honey Grove Town in Fannin Co. He was 37, working as a Mechanic at the Blacksmith shop. Carrie was 33. Lois age 14, Juanita 10, Virgina 7, and James age 1 year 11 months.

World War II Draft Registration. 27 Apr 1942 James Frank Pippin of Ladonia, Fannin Co, TX was age 49, born 25 Dec 1892 in Jackson Co, TN. Mrs. James F. Pippin of Ladonia would always know his address. He was 5'8', 162 lbs; had blue eyes and gray hair.

James Frank Pippin, died 9 Aug 1977, Baylor Hospital, Dallas, where he had been for three days. He lived in Elmo, Kaufman Co. He was widowed, a Farmer. Born 25 Dec 1892. Juanita Deatherage, daughter, was the informant and declared his father as "unknown". He died of acute myocardial infarction and emphysema. Buried Elmo Cemetery, Aug 11th.


JAMES FRANK PIPPIN and CARRIE DOVE FRY were married on 23 August 1914 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.46,71 CARRIE DOVE FRY72, daughter of WILLIAM WALLACE FRY and LOUISA VIOLETTA HIGGINBOTHAM, was born on 14 July 1896 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.46,73 She died on 25 August 1968 at the age of 72 in Elmo, Kaufman County, Texas.46

Buried in Elmo Cemetery. Texas Death Index: <http://userdb.rootsweb.com/tx/death/search.cgi> has her death as August 25, which is also on her death certificate. Daughter Lois had written down her death as 23 August, but that was the date of her anniversary. Daughter Juanita Deatherage was the informant for the death certificate. Carrie died of a heart attack, was hospitalized four days at Colonial Hospital in Terrell, Texas. Her parents were listed as Will Fry and Viola Higginbotham.

Last Rites Held for Mrs. Pippin
Mrs. Carrie D. Pippin, resident of Elmo, died in a Terrell hospital early Sunday morning. Funeral services were held from the Anderson-Clayton Chapel at 4:00 p.m. tuesday with the Rev. Robert Baldridge and the Rev. Lee Furrh officiating. Interment was in the Elmo cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Carrie Dove Pippin was born in Fannin County, Texas, on July 14, 1896. She spent most of her life in and near Ladonia before moving to Terrell and Elmo three years ago.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was married to J. F. Pippin on August 23, 1914, and to this union four children were born. Surviving her are: her husband, James F. Pippin, Sr. of Elmo; one son, James F. Pippin Jr. of Antlers, Oklahoma; three daughters, Mrs. Lois Haden of Springdale, Arkansas, Mrs. Jack Deatherage of Elmo, Mrs. Dick Raedel (Roedel) of Evergreen, Colorado; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. W. L. Dillard of Ladonia; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
