25. Robert CLOPTON^2,36 was born on 28 July 1728 in New Kent County, Virginia.³⁷ He was baptized on 1 September 1728.³⁷

Recorded in St Peters Parish Registry are the births of Robert, son of Robert & Frances on 26 Feb 1755; Abner, son of Robert & Frances Cloption on 14 Jul 1757, and John & Nancy, listed as "daughters" of Robt & Frances Clopton, on 4 Nov 1759, bapt on 27 Jan 1760, and Sarah Hewlet of Robt & Fras Clopton on 277 Jul 1768, bapt on 18 Sept.

The son Robert apparently married another Frances - Frances Anderson.

Robert CLOPTON and Frances WENTWORTH were married. Frances WENTWORTH³⁸ was born (date unknown).

Frances is said to be the daughter of Capt Samuel Wentworth and Mary Calcote [Calcott] of Smithfield, Isle of Wight Co, VA. Capt Samuel is seen as having died 1 Dec 1768. I have seen only daughters listed - one of those a Mary, born maybe about 1728. One WorldConnect file said Mary Wentworth married Thomas Pierce but there are no dates or locations.

From a 1999 query found online [which doesn't mention Frances]:
WENTWORTH, CALCOTT, WILSON, DAY, BROWN, PIERCE - Seeking information on Samuel WENTWORTH b abt 1725 d in VA, and wife Mary CALCOTT, dtr of John CALCOTT. Their children were Betty/marr John Day and Antony Degge; Ann/marr Thomas Brown; Mary/marr Thomas Pierce and Lois b abt 1760/marr Goodrich WILSON. Samuel and Mary WENTWORTH were in Isle of Wight Co when married.

Robert CLOPTON and Frances WENTWORTH had the following children:

A John Clopton first appears on the land tax rolls of Pittsylvania Co in 1799 - he claimed 74 acres.
