50. George BROOKES1,63,112,113,114 was born on 30 October 1787 in Caswell County, North Carolina.113,115 He died on 30 April 1868 at the age of 80 in Forsyth County, North Carolina.115

By 1820, George Brooks lived in Stokes Co NC - Forsyth formed from Stokes in 1849 making him a resident of the new county. George Brooks & Wife Elizabeth of Stokes Co NC to Obadiah Nunally of Caswell Co NC, 25 Jun 1820, tract of 206 acres in Caswell on waters of Hogan's Creek. Caswell DB V, p.109. This is the tract left Elizabeth by her grandfather John Hudnall, who had purchased it from Joseph Arnett.

George's brother Henry is said to have moved from Caswell Co about the same time. They engaged in several land deeds and Henry acted as his agent.

1860 US Census; Deep River District, Forsyth Co NC, p.659, Dwelling 705. George Brooks, age 73, Farmer, b. NC, Property valued at 24, 000; Personal at $77,800. Eliza R., age 63 and Daniel I. age 28, the only child still living at home. Son Charles listed next in the Census, but in his own household.

To wife Eliza R. Brookes, during her natural life, 2460 acres including dwelling house, home plantation, mill, cotton gin, store house, barns, and all outhouses which adjoins lands of Moses Barrow, Esq., Ashley dwigings, John Hester, and others, on waters of Belewes Creek.
Also the following slaves with all increase and those born after the date above: Abram, Charles, John, Adam, Isaac, Hundson, Harry, and Edmond; also Liza or Lizgary and her family of children and grandchildren; Ammey and her children and grandchildren, say Pheby, Ataetelana, Calip, Jerry, Hamilton, Jeff, Isabellers, two grandchildren of Phebys, making the number fifty-two. Also all my household goods of any kind, also all horses, hogs, cows, and provisions on hand at y death including grain, rough food, bacon, pork, etc. Also carriage & harness, bugg and harness, two horse wagons & harness.
If my wife should again marry, that she retain only a life estate in 600 acres around my home tract and 300 acres taken off the M. Calep land adjoining the home tract, on the East and West. The 1860 acres be immediately divided between my six children - Geo. W. Brookes, Robert H. Brookes, Charles B. Brookes, Maranda Dillard, Eliza J. Crump and Ann Amanda Withers. and that she reatin a life estate in the following property: seven negroes of her choice, five horses of her choice, one road wagon, one carriage & harness, five beds and furniture and necessary household furniture.
After the death of the wife and equal division to be made of all real & personal property in which she had life estate between my six children, Sally Ann Wither, Geo. W. Brookes, Robert H. Brookes, Charles B. Brookes, Eliza J. Crump, & Maranda M. Dillard to hold for life and then to their sons lowful begotten in wedlock.
My executors are to collect all moneys dus and to disposes of by sale such as may be most to the interest of my family, all real and personal property not herein specially divsed. Moneys raised to pay just debts and expenses - the balance to be equally divided between my three daughters and three sons.
My wife Eliza R. Brookes to be executrix; son Charles B. Brookes, Executor.

Said will found among the papers of said George Brookes after his death and proved by three witnesses: Mathias Masten, William M. Vance, and George V. Pulp. They were well acquainted with his handwriting. Ordered tobe recorded and filed.

George BROOKES and Elizabeth Ridings COURTS were married on 23 November 1818 in Rockingham County, North Carolina.112 Marriage date give is date of marriage bond. Elizabeth Ridings COURTS112,115,116, daughter of George COURTS and Hannah HUDNALL, was born on 30 October 1792 in Culpeper County, Virginia. Daniel Iverson BROOKS116,117 was born in 1832 in Stokes County, North Carolina.112,113 He died on 6 July 1860 at the age of 28. From records at Stan's house of Mae Rosalind Clement Staten's research.
The 1850 Forsyth Co. cencus lists him as a student. He attended University of NC from 1850-1 854. Graduated with an A.B. degree in 1854. (See Jennings and Allied Families by Beatrice Mackey Doughtie)
Died of Typhoid Fever.
