About these
pages: When I first started my research in the late 1950's, I soon
found that most "public" records were held for ransom by a state, a county, or a
local organization. The only way to look at census records was on microfilm,
which meant buying or renting it, or sitting in an LDS Library.
Much of that
is still true, although many of those records are now also easily
found on the LDS site. At one time, free
lookups were available in some places, but those seem to be
gone now, too. I decided to try to provide FREE records for
researchers. When the Internet became available, I started transcribing
records that I already had, most of which I had paid for, and posted more than
100 to USGENWEB county sites. The sites later started disappearing. I bought a
microfilm reader and started buying microfilm, transcribing it and putting
the information on my own webpages. I had a
strong interest in Missouri Guerrillas so I later added the Civil War
pages.
By the way,
I make no money from these web pages, and never
have.
