Thomas Caffey owned the land where Raymond Cemetery is located. In the winter of 1900-1901 he was very ill with tuberculosis. The neighbors sat up with him and the last night of his life, Willis Duer and Everett Eb Allen were with him.

During the night Caffey told the men and his wife that if he died he wanted to give two acres of his land for a cemetery; for them to go to the northeast corner, step off and mark the two acres, then bury him in the center of it.

He died the next day and his request was granted. After the cemetery was established, Mrs. Caffey had their son, who had died two years prior and was buried near the house, moved to the cemetery by the father.

Outside the cemetery on the south, three men who died violent deaths, were buried:
Mr. Boucher was shot
Mr. Palmer was stabbed
Mr. Duracken was shot

One of them was moved to a cemetery; it is not known what happened to the other two. Children who walked by the cemetery to go to school remember that the three graves gave them a “creepy” feeling -- they did not mind going by the cemetery, but felt uncomfortable about the three graves outside the cemetery.
