NIAGARA FALLS � Thelma E. Sparling, 100, formerly of Lewiston, NY, wife of fifty-two years to the late Thomas L. Sparling, died on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Sunnyside Care Center, East Syracuse, NY. Born on July 25, 1909 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Charles Emerick. Thelma was a secretary for the Chisholm Ryder Co. and the Great Lakes Carbon Co. in Niagara Falls; retiring in 1973. A life member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, Thelma was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer for over 20 years with the Meals on Wheels program. Despite being legally blind, she continued to knit blankets for charity until her death. In 2001, Thelma relocated to the Fayetteville- Manlius, NY area to be near her niece and caregiver, Mrs. Frederick (Mollie) Mills, who survives her. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews. Thelma leaves behind, and was grateful for, her friend Connie Marris, and her friends and the wonderful staff at Maple Downs in Fayetteville, Wynwood in Manlius, and Sunnyside Care Center in East Syracuse. In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was predeceased by one sister, Florence Scholefield and one brother, Clarence Emerick. Friends may call on Friday, May 21st from 11:00 AM to 12:00 NOON at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY (297-9007), where a Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 NOON with Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. Inurnment will be held in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Contributions may be made to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1010 Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
